Folf!

I'm not sure I get the appeal of fox-wolves, personally, but here's a spiffy one I finished last night.

It's a plush, not a quad suit. XD It's nearly six feet long if you count the tail. Hand-painted eyes, hand-sculpted plastic eyelids, hand-sculpted little claws, hand-painted detailing, taxidermy jaw set, not to mention making the plush itself... he was a lot of work.

I've got one close-up right now, though for some weird reason in the photo he looks derpy. (He doesn't in person, dunno whut.) I'll see if I can get some more photos for you later.

Does this guy have any sort of skeleton or anything?

[identity profile] bladespark.livejournal.com 2011-02-25 01:09 am (UTC)(link)
The head has a sculpted foam support, mostly there to hold the jaw set properly in place. The toes have foam inserts so they stay the proper shape. Otherwise he's all stuffed, there's no skeleton or anything.

How much would you charge for a spotted hyena about this size, in a similar pose?? =D

[identity profile] bladespark.livejournal.com 2011-02-25 02:02 am (UTC)(link)
$450, probably. (Maybe a little less if you wanted painted spots rather than sewn on spots.) And I do take payments, of course.

Awesome, I'll have to see about getting one after FWA.

He is absolutely the most beautiful things ever. And squeezy. Most squeezy evar! The face has so much expression in it! :D

[identity profile] lilsongbird.livejournal.com 2011-02-25 05:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Hope you don't mind some CC. I think the derp look is caused by the eyes being a little too wide set. They are close to correct but should be a little more frontwards if that makes sense? Either that or balanced with a wider nose maybe?

[identity profile] lilsongbird.livejournal.com 2011-02-25 05:20 pm (UTC)(link)
How many pieces is this guy? o-o Also how the heck do you learn plush patterning. I can make simple ones, but none as nice as this. I am itching to make a matched pair in a pose similar to this for me and my gf of our fursonas... but probably not gonna happen if this is a super complex 500 piece plush XD Most I dealt with was a 35 piece lion and that was a lot of swearing. >.>

[identity profile] bladespark.livejournal.com 2011-02-25 06:22 pm (UTC)(link)
He is a lot of pieces. :P But mostly just because of the feet, otherwise he's not any more pieces than any quadruped plush. :) I haven't counted though!

And making patterns is WAY easy for things like this because I cheat. :D I made him by first making a dummy shaped like what I wanted from wadded up newspaper taped together. Then I covered it in a "skin" of saran wrap and duct tape. When you cut the skin off, ta-da, pattern! And you only have to skin half of it if it's going to be symmetrical.

Ahhh!! Is it ironic I do taxidermy and never even considered one could do this? XD
