The brainweasels have been at it again (I posted more about that in a locked entry, so I don't bother all you folks who are just here to enjoy the writing.) Holidays are sometimes so hard, especially when you have a difficult relationship with your family.

But the holidays are also sometimes so great! I'm making slow but steady progress on my Jingleclop swap fic. Giving the gift of porn for Christmas! I also spent some time with my kid, decorating our Christmas tree. The ornaments are mostly ones I had as a child. That's partly because I'm not a super Christmasy person, I'm more interested in Solstice, so I have never bought ornaments as an adult, but it's still pleasantly nostalgic to get them all out of their boxes and hang them up. JJ also put up his childhood ornaments, which actually he's still getting as an adult, because he collects the Star Trek ship ornaments, most of which light up and have sound effects. They're very fun!

How's everyone doing on the writing?

Summary:

Marinette doesn't talk about being in love in front of Adrien; Adrien doesn't talk about anyone he's interested in at all. And neither jokes much with the other: he's too worried she'll reject his friendship and she's too worried he'll reject her love. They certainly don't have in-jokes. And if they were dating, Alya would have heard from Marinette directly that she was about to ask.

…Why is Alya finding out any of this has changed through Mme. Bustier's class's group chat?

My husband and I made it a point when we got married to start buying Christmas ornaments on every vacation and also to find fan-related ornaments for each other for gifts, so our tree now is all great memories of our lives together, which makes it a truly FAMILY tree, given my other, uh, family history. ;-)

I, too, celebrate Solstice, but we also have a tree (usually...there have been years when we never get around to decorating).

Yay for lights and sound and Christmas tree fun together with your kidlet! :-)

Today, I've been feeling poorly, but I managed 385 words of a new fanfic, using a prompt from my bingo card. We'll see where it goes.

I finished a thing today. I'm not sure how I feel about it. It's not what I wanted it to be? And I can't tell whether the thing it actually turned out to be is any good.

I hope the recipient will like it, anyway.

I don't decorate inside for Christmas, I'm a Solstice person too, although the timing around my job sometimes helps my procrastinatory nature to the point that I don't end up doing much. I do put up lights outside though: they go up around the first of December and come down once I start getting home after work before they come on.

More typing today which led to more notemaking as I did it. Starting to get a better handle on a few things, including a scene where one of the POV characters gets pranked and it ends up worse than intended but while I'd written out a couple of versions of the post-prank infirmary scenes (which are more important to the actual story) I hadn't entirely figured out what had actually happened. Think I know now, though I'm still not clear on who's involved and it also takes place in one of the times during the novel where I'm not clear on how long there is between event A and event B.

Also finally settled on the time of year this is all happening, which has been bugging me for a really long time, and pretty sure this whole thing is going to end up New Adult instead of Young Adult before I'm done.

Dec 8: 3K words, woot! Which brings the story to an even 10K, and me to my 50K goal for the year (which is good, because I go back to work full time this week, and we'll see how writing goes after that). Or I should say: it'll put me at 50K-published-words after I publish it, which I am DAMN well gonna do before December is out.

Which is doable, because that same 3K very nearly finishes the story, woot!

Day 8 - 155 words, some on the HAH piece, more on the Silmarillion piece.

I too am a Solstice/Yule person. I put up my blue star yesterday, and that will likely be the extent of my outside decorating.

343 words of the novel for the 8th. I was visiting family for the weekend, so it's good that I got at least something done - it's not as easy to focus properly on writing there.

I live alone and spend Christmas at the house of one parent or the other, so I've never got around to getting a lot of Christmas decorations at my own home. I've thought about it, but I'm really bad at initiative when it comes to my home, so... not much. I've oddly always enjoyed Christmas even though my immediate family are all atheists and I'm, uh, Pagan-leaning agnostic? I'm just drawn towards the generic Midwinter festival of light thing, which is common to a lot of traditions, even if some of the symbolism and music I'm used to happens to be Christian in origin. :-)

In my country, though, we only decorate the Christmas tree a few days before Christmas. I don't know if you folks over there use live trees, like most of us do - you can't keep them indoors for too long before they start dropping their needles everywhere.

(It strikes me that it's a LITTLE premature to say that I've hit my 50K-published-words goal, seeing that I haven't published yet. But I'm now at a place where I CAN hit that goal, and probably will. Which I was pretty much despairing of before!)

A December Days post, and the song switch for Songfic #2 continued to at dividends, as it got me through to the end of the chapter! Which means I've finally gotten to the part that I actually wanted to write, so hopefully the next few chapters go faster.

I've never seen an episode of Miraculous Ladybug, but what I've read has whetted my appetite. The really good shows tend to have active fandoms for years on end, it seems.
