Happy Solstice!

I'm making MEAD again this year! I haven't the last couple of years, because Life, but I always drink a bottle I made myself for the solstice, and today I will be cracking the last bottle from the before times. (I'm hoping it's still good, but it should be, it's been in the wine "cellar" aka. my husband's wine fridge that is a nice stable temperature, and from 2019 isn't too terribly old.)

But that means I need to make more for next year!

I'm also going to make candles with my goober child, and probably make one to gift my mother in law, she'll like getting something from her grandkid.

And I got a nice wedge of brie and some cured meat, and I'll make myself a little charcuterie board for dinner. :3

NOT doing the all-night vigil, I've been so goddamn exhausted this year that beginning the next year with a heap of sleep debt seems like a bad idea.

But all in all, it's looking like today will be a good little celebration.

Now, if only I didn't have to leave the house to drop off packages and pick up pills... Alas! Will have to be sure to do that before sunset!

That is a neat little celebration! I do enjoy a good mead, haven't found a solid brand that I liked and haven't pursued making it yet - perhaps after I retire.

There's a few local meads I enjoy, but none hit the same spot as the stuff I make myself. My favorite is a "session" mead that's sparkling and more in a beer style than a wine style, whereas I make still mead that's wine-like, pretty strong, and fairly sweet. Well, when it comes out right. :D

I prefer sweeter stuff myself.  We went to a wine festival in Las Cruces and the people in the booths were saying "no, you don't like sweet wines!"  And I was on the verge of saying 'Screw you, I know what I like!'  German fruity wines I quite enjoy.  It's not like I'm drinking a pint at a time.

Oh yeah! I mean, I like a lot of dry styles too, but dessert wines are great. When I can find a good sweet red I'm in heaven. It's not just whites that can be sweet, people! Make sweet reds! Please!

I would LOVE to try a sweet red!  My problem is sulfites.  I can smell them when I lift the glass to my nose, and too many really puts me off.
