Summer rain.

I miss summer rain, when the drops are thick and huge and warm on your skin. I miss the way the storms roll in, with a cool wind cutting through the heat, and the scent of rain in the desert, which smells wonderful, and exciting, and totally unlike any other scent ever. (I never knew, until I went to Ireland, that rain could fall with no scent at all, but it does there.) I miss the thunder, and lightning, and the feeling of standing in the rain with everything swirling all around you.

It don't know if it's just that we were in a drought so long, or if it's the weather patterns, so that the big storms are less common, or what, but it's been a very long time since I last saw a good storm.

And now I'm going to somewhere with totally different weather, where it will be damp all the time, and where I suspect they never get hot summer rain, or the smell of rain on bone-dry ground. I'll miss it. Wherever else I go in my life, someday I want to go back to the desert.
