Somebody explain this one...
Nov. 17th, 2006 02:57 pmSo, I'm aware that this is probably a case of the pot calling the kettle black, since I've long defended my right to have reactions based on emotion rather than just logic. (And I still find it really sad that I have to do so, but that's a whole 'nother rant there.) But I really can't wrap my brain around this one at all. I mean... when I get upset, there's a reason behind, it, and I cannot find the reason here at all.
So, on to the story.
On the Windstone forums there's an area called the "flea market." It's for buying, selling, and swapping Windstones. Gal posted there a while ago with a long list of items she was looking to sell. She'd sold them all when a second person entered and asked about one of them. It was long gone, like the second thing to sell, but I happened to have one that I'd decided I didn't actually need. (I'm a bit broke feeling, as I've mentioned, and this was never one of my favorites.) So I piped up with "Gal 1 has sold hers, but if you're looking, I've got one." And she responded positively asked my price, and I gave her a price, she made a counter-offer, I took it. Six posts total.
I go to check the forum today, and there's the original gal, who has posted about how horrifically hurt and offended she is that I'd post something like that in her thread! I need to do selling in my own thread, she says.
I apologized, explained that I hadn't wanted to clutter up the forum with a new thread when I could resolve this quickly right there, and said sorry I wouldn't do it again, and her response, was to say that she had spent an hour and a half calming down enough to post her first response, and that this was just horrible, and she's so terribly upset.
I'm apologzing again, but I'm just... baffled here. WTF?
She was done! Her sale was over! I wasn't stealing her business, and this is a PUBLIC FORUM that actually ECOURAGES off-topic posts. (It tends to be a madhouse there, really. The topics about food end up on Windstones, and the topics about Windstones end up on computers, and the topics about computers end up on food. Very fun.) But anyhow... I just can't get my brain around this.
I mean, of course she'd be mad if I'd made that offer in her thread before she sold her item, but.... she sold it days ago! She sold everything days ago! It's all gone except I think one peice that three different people were arguing over that's still up in the air.
Can anybody think of a reason why this could possibly be offensive? I really, really, really can't find one. I'm trying, but I can't. It makes no sense at all to me. She doesn't own "her" thread, and even if she did, she was done with it.
