Today's mini painting

I finished up Alan Rhiannon, the Phoenix Child today. Wheee. Painting strips was a pain. I love how the face came out, but I need a smaller brush. *gasp!* Considering how small my current brush is, that's shocking, but they do make 'em in smaller sizes.

As always, photos suck. But you get the idea, anyhow.

Ooh, those look really good, even for bad pictures. At some point, I really am going to have to make the west-coast Boardieswing and visit all of the talented people.

That's pretty cool! is that some drybrush technique I see on the wings? :)

Though you may get weird looks from neighbours, you might want to try taking your photos outdoors. I find the natural light helps tremendously.

I'll fuss with lighting when I've got focus licked. My camera has issues with focusing correctly. And yep, that's drybrushing, and also some wash/glaze stuff too. There's more drybrushing on the figure, but as it's white on off white it's very subtle.

Ah, alrighty then. I just find the natural lighting creates better contrasts or something and allows my camera to focus better than it does indoors is all (sometimes have the same problem you see).

I may give it a go, but if it's bright enough to be really contrasty you lose all detail on these things. I mean, you look at the one with the flash there. The detailing on the white is totally lost.
