We spent last night at the new place. I keep calling it "our house" because it is a house, except that we only live in half of it, the upstairs is somebody else's apartment. But anyhow, we're still moving stuff. Almost all of my things are over there, just a few odds and ends left, but JJ still has to pack and move a lot of his stuff.
The new place is mostly spiffy, but not all. There is crayon all over, and stickers on the walls in one room, so whoever was there before had a small child. The window sills look like they haven't been dusted since the last time they were painted, and also like the last time they were painted they just painted over the dirt. There is a long, long littany of minor problems with the place, but given the price, I don't mind at all! (Honestly, if we owned instead of rending, I would be thrilled at this sort of fixer-upper. Everything is in great shape except for the cosmetic stuff like paint and moldings, and those I could deal with! But as it's not ours, it's really not worth the effort and expense. Though I do contemplate at least fixing the hilariously bad paint job that's everywhere but the bedrooms.) Everything that we really need works, nothing is actually faling apart, the rooms are fairly spacious, (though not my room, it's tiny,) and electricity is included with the rent so we can run the AC and keep our computers on without worry. It's also rather conveniently located within walking distance of a grocery store, which is very handy! And a major bus line runs by only a block or so away.
We haven't gotten the gas turned on yet though, so there's no hot water and the stove doesn't work. But the microwave works fine, and we can come back to JJ's parents' place to shower. And to check the net, as I am doing right this moment, as there's also no internet hookup there yet. We're getting that set up today, but it will probably be later next week before they actually install it.
I get the feeling that JJ is going to be gradually moving out of the parental abode for quite some time, really... JJ's the sort that performs best under pressure, and there's no time limit on when we must get out of here. I started packing for the U-haul trip before he did, even though he was leaving three days before I was. So it will probably be quite some time before the last of his posessions get extracted from this place. The last little bit of my stuff shall go over today, and after that I'm not going to be fussed about the rest of it. I'm not his mother, she can give him guilt over needing to pack and move, I don't have to do it for her.
What other news? I am itching to go down and get a cat, but I won't be able to until we're more or less all moved in and settled. It would be mean to put a new, nervous cat in the middle of the chaos of boxes that we currently have.
And speaking of itching, (here some minor tmi for you,) somewhere yesterday either JJ or myself picked up fleas. Ick. Probably walking through some plants with them or something, because it's just on the feet. And then, of course, they crossed over from the one of us to the other last night, and we both woke up itching. Mine were easy to deal with, as my legs are shaven, but JJ's are hiding amid the hair. He's down taking a shower now, which should hopefullly get rid of 'em. Happily they're not like lice. (I got lice as a kid once, they are well nigh impossible to get rid of once you have them. I had to get my hair cut super short, it was annoying.) He also seems to be allergic to them, because his bites are swelling up and getting nasty, whilst mine are just tiny red itchy bumps, like little mosquito bites.
Can't think of anything else to write about, so I shall sign off for the moment. If anybody wants to get in touch with me, e-mail is currently your best bet ( spark.costumes@gmail.com ) because I'm not going to be on IRC or IM until we have internet in the new place, but I will be checking my e-mail at least once a day.
Anybody involved in the MM fox fur project, things are still on schedule, and all but three people have paid for their stuff. I'll be putting out a last call nextweek, and shall be ordering probably on Thursday.
