The fate of gryphons.
Aug. 7th, 2006 10:36 pmWhat follows is random musings on my current obsession, so feel free to ignore this if you don't like Windstones.
When Windstone released the PYO gryphons, I was thrilled. A regular production Windstone of that size runs around $100 to $150, depending on the complexity of the paint job. The PYOs, unpainted, are $30. It meant I could really get into collecting in a serious way, and I LOVE to paint stuff like that, so it was a double bonus.
So I bought four, one in each of the eye colors offered. (They come with glass eyes already installed.) So I had red, green, blue, and orange.
I gave the green away to Keith. *Waves to Keith* It was his birthday, and he appreciates that kind of thing.
So then I had three. But I decided that I wanted to sell a custom paint job, and a batch of additional blue eyed gryphons went up for sale just then, so I bought two.
Then I had five, three blue, one red, one orange.
I painted one blue into the snow leopard, for practice and so I could have an example of my painting skill, then put the second blue up for sale, sold it, painted it green, shipped it off.
That left me with four. Two blue, one red, one orange.
Then I got my balrog idea, bought a yellow eyed, and also gave in a bought a gray, so I'd have one more to paint and sell.
Currently I'm painting one of the remaining blues, (it's totally awesome,) and shall paint the yellow as planned.
This leaves me with one blue, one red, one orange, and one gray.
What should I do with them? I'm pretty sure I'm going to just hang onto the blue, and let it appreciate in value, unpainted, until some later time when I can sell it. (Blue proved to be the most popular eye color of those released so far.) But for the rest... I'm tempted to put up another custom paint job auction, but I really don't know how it will do. I'm feeling broke just now, because of how much getting set up in this apartment has cost me. I have the money, but I'm still dipping more into my savings than I'm taking in just now. I probably shouldn't have bought any new Windstones at all, but ah well... that's the nature of obsession for you. At least I'm not going into debt for them, like some people are. But I'd like to be able to resell the gryphons for enough to cover the cost of the new stuff I'm buying. That'd be nice.
