I got the good news from Further Confusion a week or so ago that I had, indeed, managed to secure a second table space, and thus would have a full 8' table for my use, rather than trying to keep the massive mound of tails on one half of the table, while the artist on the other half had a print book sitting in the middle of a lot of lonely space. (She paid for her whole 4' of space, so I certainly wasn't going to encroach on it, it would make her less visible, and given that I was one of just four tail sellers (two of which had crap all, and the third was selling stuff twice my prices,) and she was one of forty or fifty artists, she needed to be seen more than I did.) Anyhow, this year shall thusly be much nicer. Also, JJ will be there, which will improve things immensely.

I also just now filled out my application for space at Anthrocon. I'll be mailing it tomorrow, as that's what they require. Applications are opened on a certain date, and yours must be postmarked no earlier than that date, or it gets rejected. Once they have them all in, they sort them out by postmarked date, and then it's first come, first serve.

I like this system. FC uses a system just like it for the Marketplace spaces, which is where I shall be. (The dealer's room has certain advantages, but the Marketplace actually gets more traffic than all but the best couple of dealer's spaces.) The dealer's room at FC, and prior to this Anthrocon's dealer's room, would sell spaces for next year at the current year's convention, which meant, of course, that the exact same people were there every year, and that getting a space required something of an "in." This new system means that getting a space requires paying attention and being on the ball. *grins* I approve of this, and think it will do good things for the con. It'll cut down on the number of artists and dealers who are there every year just out of sheer inertia, and increase those there that actually care about being there.

Anyhow, I feel I have a decent chance of getting a table at AC, though I may have shot myself in the foot by marking that if no full tables were left I'd take a half table... I don't really want a half table, but I would rather have that than nothing, because if I have no table, I cannot afford to go to the con at all.

Now I just have to scrape up the funds for the plane tickets. No more Windstones for me until I do, I'm afraid. I've got about half of what I need, and I have a month before it gets worrying, so I'm pretty sure I'll make it, but still... Rent must also be paid, and dipping into savings for this would not be a good idea, given that I chose to start paying off my loan rather than to put more into savings, thus my savings is leaner than I like. (If I go broke buying plane tickets and sell nothing at the con and have to clean out my savings to pay for the hotel, and then can't pay rent, and get thrown out in the street, I'll blame all of you for advising me to make a payment on the loan rather than save the money!)

Also, I need to make more fox tails. LOTS more fox tails. And some wolf tails, and some more feline tails, and a heap of matching ears... so much to do! I REALLY wish I had a reliable assistant, but the one local who was willing to help me out turned out to be rather flakey.
