Good stuff!
Nov. 16th, 2006 02:10 pmThere were good things in the mail today. Firstly, my badges from Anjel_kitty came. *bounces* Wow! They are totally awesome! I'd been planning to just wear a groupshot badge of my own design at FC this year, rather than anything made by anybody else, but I might have to wear those at least once because they are so nifty!
Also, the male brown dragon came today.
I don't think I've ljd about these guys, so I must! As you all should know by now, I collect Windstone Editions, particularly the dragons. I tend to keep an eye on ebay for them, but unfortunately, so do a LOT of other collectors, so it's rare to get something truly cheap there. One will, often enough, find something that's still in production for less than it goes for new, but the retired pieces tend to sell for more, particularly the rare ones. And myself, right now, being a little bit stressed over finances, and felling very, very broke this month, have been looking but not bidding lately, given that I can't spare even $50, let alone the hundreds and hundreds that the ones I really want are going for.
However, there are always a few people selling a Windstone who don't know it's a Windstone, and thus list it just as what it is. "Lovely male unicorn" is one I found a few days ago, though it was priced such that it wasn't enough of a deal, so I didn't bid. Looking for these lost statues is hard work. When your only sure keyword is "dragon" you must plow through literally thousands of bad dragon statues in search of a gem that might not even be there. But the other night I was a little bored, so I figured I might as well go digging. And I found a find. Oh what a find! A matched set, male and mother, of Windstone dragons in the retired brown color. Mint condition. The auction title was something like "Pair of beautiful dragons, must see." The starting bid was TEN BUCKS and there was no reserve. Two days left on the auction.
Man, I watched that thing like a hawk for two days! When it came down to the last few minutes, I was refreshing constantly, just to make sure nobody else had found them and was going to snatch them from me. But nobody else did. I got them! They were shipped separately at my request, just to make sure they arrived intact, because Windstones shipped together tend to bang into eachother, even through layers of bubble wrap, and will arrive broken. The mother came yesterday, and had been well packed but still got a tiny chip in her toe. (They really are disgustingly fragile.) The male arrived today. Perfect mint condition! And with shipping and all I have paid $30 for a pair of dragons worth at LEAST $150!

Date: 2006-11-16 10:56 pm (UTC)I have really liked the Windstone Dragon collection over the years and even gotten my mother(who collects Dragons) a couple.
Ebay is an amazing thing and if you are willing to do some leg work (finger work?) you can find some real gems. I got a Dark Crystal movie prop for next to nothing (low 3 figures) because of the way it was listed on e-bay.

Date: 2006-11-17 01:07 am (UTC)Here's a heads up for you, in fact. The Paint Your Own winged wolves /should/ be going up on ebay tomorrow, in limited batches of 20 each, and there will also be a batch of a NEW dragon, it's a little curled up dragon with a crystal ball, rather like the coiled dragon, but a touch smaller, and with one eyes closed, and though he just woke up. Limited edition color, signed by Melody. *grins* $60 each. I'm thinking of getting one. I definitely will get a wolf, they're just $30, though you have to supply your own paint job.
