My sewing machine has broken. I'm not sure exactly what is wrong, it's something in and around the bobbin. The little whatsit that holds the bobbin in place is supposed to be firmly fixed to the rest of the machine, and only the bobbin itself moves, but the whole thing, whatsit and all, is shifting around when I try to sew a stitch, and that's not good.

This ordinarily wouldn't make a lick of difference, as I sew 90% of my projects by hand anyhow, but of course this month I have two major projects that pretty much require the machine.

Figures, doesn't it?

So I'll be calling the repair place tomorrow and seeing what they can do for me. Meanwhile tonight instead of sewing a Cheshire cat, I shall work on tails for FC. Hopefully I'll still have the cat done this week anyhow. *crosses fingers* It's got a deadline to meet before the end of the month, so things are getting tight. The other project, a rabbit bodysuit, can probably manage if I don't get to it for a few more weeks, I hope. I can, and shall, do the head and paws by hand anyhow, so I've those to work on.

So much to do!!!!

Usually that means you have thread and/or dust/lint trapped under the bobbin case. You should be able to unscrew the screw holding the cover plate on then lift the whole bobbin case out. Just watch how it came out for the return. Clean out any dust and lint and thread you find and put it all back together. If that doesn't work, it may just be time for a maintenance. My Kenmore was about $60 to have that done. Seems to be the standard charge. Good luck :)

My sewing machine is old, and I think it's set up somewhat oddly, as I can't find anywhere to unscrew as you describe.

So I just reimagined your current music as a death metal song called "WHAT'S THAT SMELL?"

...any way you slice it, I'm going to hell. :P

Last year, a room mate of mine said that some guy she knew wanted to borrow my sewing machine. I said there was no way under heaven he was going to take it out of the apartment, and I didn't want to end up having to do whatever he wanted for him because he doesn't know what he's doing.
So while I was gone, the guy comes over and my room mate thought she had the right to tell this teenage boy that I don't know, that he can use my sewing machine so long as he doesn't take it out of the apartment.
Of course, I came home to a busted machine. The whatsit that holds the bobbin was popped completely out of my machine and was under the kitchen table along with one or two screws and the bobbin had rolled elsewhere.
They guy didn't even tell my room mate he had done anything to it, apparently just panicked and pulled a runner.
