I've never followed stars much, but there are a few of them that one can't help but be at least peripherally aware of, especially if one is a geek. One of those is Wil Wheaton who is most famous for playing Westly Crusher on Star Trek TNG. Some people hated Westly, some loved him. I was always fairly indifferent to him as a character. Even though I was teenage myself when the show was out, I related more to the adults than I did to him.

Some years later I recall hearing that he hated Trek, and was bitter about his years involved in it. And I felt kinda sad about that. It's seldom uplifting to find that characers you liked were played by actors that hated the character and show, and though I never considered Westly anything special, he was part of the Trek crew, and I liked Trek.

Then, more recently I ran into a snippet of blog from him that was anything but bitter about Trek, and I wondered... what changed? Was I just mis-hearing rumors? Was he really bitter, or not? If he was, why suddenly now this warmth, even enthusiasm, towards things Trek?

Well, I just found out the answer to that question, and I think it's worth a read, for anybody who's ever watched any TNG. (Opops. I should mention it's got spoilers for the Star Trek experience, if you haven't seen it. *blush*)

Wow, I've always wondered about that myself. Thanks for the link.

Wil's a great guy. He came to terms with his Trek hate a while ago.

Ah. Interesting. Well, we're rather glad that Wil was able to get over the hump and see all the beautiful and unique things that he got to do, and what kind of impact the show had on people.

That was a neat read, thanks for posting. :) Neat to hear his reactions to it and have those feelings. Also neat because I just got to experience that place myself not long ago. o_O
