@#$%@#$@#

GAH!!!!!!

LOOK YOU FURRY FREAKS, IT'S BAD ENOUGH WHEN MTV AND THE REST OF THE MEDIA INSIST THAT FURRY = FURRYSEX. PLEASE WILL YOU IN THE FANDOM NOT DO IT?

I have explained, so freaking many times, to non furs that furry is a FANDOM, and it means you like the art and the stories and the characters. That some may like the yiff, but that this is not the definition of furry.

Quit undoing all my work, you drooling neanderthals. Sex is not the point of furry!

READ THE WIKI! Shall I quote it at you? "Furry fandom is a subculture distinguished by its enjoyment of anthropomorphic animal characters." And "enjoyment" here is NOT A FREAKING EUPHEMISM!!!!!!!!!! Learn it, pervs. FURRY IS A FANDOM.

posted as I watch the furry CSI episode. Heh.

[identity profile] bladespark.livejournal.com 2007-02-21 05:52 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, with that kind of sensationalist crap going around we certainly don't need any more reasons for people to think we're disgusting perverts.

[identity profile] crystallinegirl.livejournal.com 2007-02-21 06:02 am (UTC)(link)
Well, you know, for all that it did show the bad side of furries with the yiffing and all, they did say at the end that they took one look at the fur suits and thought foul play, but it was really nothing to do with the furry bit of it at all. Just a domestic dispute gone bad.

[identity profile] bladespark.livejournal.com 2007-02-21 06:04 am (UTC)(link)
I haven't seen it. I have no intention of seeing it. Inserting one tiny "oh nevermind" note does not make up for having a freaking FUR ORGY in it. (Which I don't WANT to see, ew.)

[identity profile] crystallinegirl.livejournal.com 2007-02-21 06:15 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, yes that was deeply disturbing. I agree.

you are right bladespark we dont need that

Fandom first, subcultures second. To mistake one for the other is to assume that Star Trek is the entirety of SF fandom. (Which will get you lynched by the more hardcore Star Wars fans and eyed funny by Firefly enthusiasts.)

Not to mention, saying that furry is always about sex is lumping together a lot of people who do mascot work into a grouping that they may have no interest or affiliation with, as well as implicitly accusing them of the same behavior. Do they really think that anyone who puts on the mascot costume must like having sex in it?

"Quit undoing all my work, you drooling neanderthals. Sex is not the point of furry!"

Since when was sex not the point of anything? You can deny it all you want, but sex (fursuit sex, erotic art, etc, etc, etc) is a major part of the fandom, just like it's a major part of everything else in current society. It /sells/, and when commercial success is important (Whether it is or isn't in furry), that becomes the bottom-line.

Hypothetical: If 90% of art sold is bought because it shows the letter X, and I'm an aspiring starving artist, what am I going to draw? the letter X or the letter Y?

So then it's a sort of vicious exponential growth/shrink of sub-cultures; the ones that /don't/ want Item (n) are pushed to the side and become disenfranchised, while those that enjoy Item (n) grow and spread virally, and become the most-often assosciated with Genre X.

Anyway. *drooling knuckle-drag*

[identity profile] bladespark.livejournal.com 2007-02-21 08:11 am (UTC)(link)
You are wrong. 100% WRONG. 90% of the art is NOT porn. Far as I can tell it's 50/50. (I was at FC this year, I LOOKED AT THE ART. There was MORE art in the regular art show than in the porno only show, by a LARGE margin.) And I've DONE the surveys, I've talked to people. I've counted up the numbers, and it is NOT ABOUT THE PORN. I did a survey ON A FUCKING PORNO MESSAGE BOARD and 80% of the people there said the reason they were in furry was because of something OTHER than porn. And that's ON A PORN BOARD. On the non porn board where I asked the same questions, 95% of them were NOT IN IT FOR THE PORN.

The porn is there, I don't deny it. But that's not WHY people are furry, that's not what it's FOR, and there are a LOT OF US just like me that don't even like it!

Just because you are a pervert, and you know other perverts does not mean we're all perverts. And even if most of us were perverts, there's more to it than that.

I am an ARTIST. I am furry because I CREATE beautiful things. But if it's just for the porn, then what am I doing? If it's about the porn, then I guess you're going to be cutting holes in that fursuit I'm making you, hrm? (In which case, if you are, then LET ME GIVE YOU A REFUND, as I do NOT want my ART to be used in your sick fantasies.) I am in furry because it is an expression of my creativity. If you go and ASK furries why they're furry, most of them are going to tell you something other than "I'm in it for the porn."

[identity profile] privatepony.livejournal.com 2007-02-21 08:21 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, let's go ahead and make broad generalizations (Oh, he likes looking at furry porn, I bet he has fursuit sex, too!).

1.) It was a hypothetical situation.
2.) Please calm down. I didn't mean to upset you, I'm pointing out possible reasons why mainstream society views us the way they do.
3.) You DO create beautiful things. Pervert or not, you do amazing work and I wouldn't have asked you to do this for me if I didn't appreciate it.
4.) I'm not going to pay $1200 for something and then cut it up when I have no clue what I'm doing. I'd have asked for that if I'd wanted it.

[identity profile] bladespark.livejournal.com 2007-02-21 08:26 am (UTC)(link)
Well? The media thinks that all furries have fursuit sex too, you know! Have you seen that CSI espisode? If they're right about the porn, why they MUST be right about the fursuits too, yes? It's just as valid for me to assume you're into fursuit sex as it is for you to assume that any other given furry is into furporn.

Mainstream society is WRONG to view us that way. And I'm not going to sit back and say "Oh yes, it's all about sex, except for me" when I KNOW otherwise. I did the survey. I got well over 100 responses ON AN ADULT BOARD, okay? I KNOW that furry is not about sex. I can go find the exact numbers for you, if you like.

And "pervert or not?" NOT. Okay? N. O. T. NOT.

[identity profile] privatepony.livejournal.com 2007-02-21 08:35 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I have seen the CSI episode. It's not as bad as some people get all up in arms about. At the end, Gary Sinise even has some little statue or something of a furry on his desk.

I don't need the numbers. I believe you.

I was referring to myself as the pervert.

[identity profile] privatepony.livejournal.com 2007-02-21 08:50 am (UTC)(link)
All's well that ends well.

[identity profile] jmfoxfire.livejournal.com 2007-02-21 08:30 am (UTC)(link)
i like the art you make it is so cool.

[identity profile] starkruzr.livejournal.com 2007-02-21 10:03 am (UTC)(link)
You will never convince anyone who has no furry friends of this for the following reasons:

1) "If it isn't about the sex, why does it even need a name? I mean, people have thought Bugs Bunny was cute and funny for decades and they never needed names for themselves."
2) "Dude, come on. I've SEEN the internet. I've SEEN that episode of CSI. I've got THE FACTS."

Having friends who are fur-fans tends to make one feel stupid for ever thinking these things, but yeah.

[identity profile] bladespark.livejournal.com 2007-02-21 09:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, the reason for this rant was discovering somebody who is in the fandom, and thus should KNOW better, saying it's all about the sex.

[identity profile] 2dlife.livejournal.com 2007-02-21 11:20 am (UTC)(link)
I just think you're always cold :P

[identity profile] xodiac.livejournal.com 2007-02-21 02:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Ooooooooh, dear. What brought this on?

And I, for one, agree with you.

[identity profile] realis-kat.livejournal.com 2007-02-21 02:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I have been saying this to people a lot. I love sex (i refuse to refer to it as yiffm so many reasons, i will use the word for fun, but not serious talk) just as much as the next 20 year old, and i love porn just a little less, but gods unfathomable firey wrath people! have a life out of your porn, please! When you ask somw onw how their day was the the responce is "Ive pawed 15 times today! want to help with the 16th?" i want to take a chease grater to their face. (thyis happend just the other day...)

wow heh, mini-rant much?

I agree with you 100%, SPark.

[identity profile] jilinn.livejournal.com 2007-02-21 11:22 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll admit, I am a perv, and I enjoy furry porn, but it is NOT the main reason I am a furry or like things that are furry. I feel a kinship on a spiritual level with animals. I understand them better than I do most people. Sex is not even close to the top of my list of why I am a furry, and sex in a fursuit... HOW!? Those things are freaking hot to wear just walking around in! I am an artist as well, and I do both porn and non porn artwork on a roughly 50/50 scale. Good art sells, and you can find a buyer for either type so an artist would not have to do one type exclusivly unless they wanted to.

[identity profile] reiko-sazanami.livejournal.com 2007-02-22 01:09 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, this is why I started the Clean Furs group, and was promptly flamed all to hell for it. :/

[identity profile] bladespark.livejournal.com 2007-02-22 01:09 am (UTC)(link)
Flamed for that? Sheesh. (And... clean furs? Is it an lj group? Is it still about?)

[identity profile] susie-que.livejournal.com 2007-02-22 01:37 am (UTC)(link)
I believe it is spark

[identity profile] reiko-sazanami.livejournal.com 2007-02-22 02:06 am (UTC)(link)
Yep, it's still about over at [livejournal.com profile] clean_furs. There aren't a whole lot of posts, but we have a friendly little group there.

And I was flamed because I got into a major tif with a suitmaker (one who shall remain nameless but is known for some rather 'yiffy' suits), who claimed I was being exclusionary and such.

Well...there are countless yiff communities, and I'm sure that they wouldn't want ME there, so I could call exclusion on them as well.

It caused a whooooole lot of drama back in the 05 summer, but we ended up getting noticed for it. ^^;

AGH.
Everyone thinks that I'm some sort of furry sex pervert in my academic enviornment (read: skoolzorz) but I'm pretty much the furry rep for the people there, and I fall into the realm of "Crazy but harmless". Thank goodness the 'furry rep' isn't the otherfur... He's really scary and defenitely falls into the realm of "Crazy and stay distant."

I really, really hate how everyone (read: general non-fur population) sees furries as pr0n-worshipping pervs... Sure, I fursuit, but it's not for sex, it's for fun (the idea of fursuit orgies revolts me). I like furry art but not furry porn... But nobody seems to understand that there are furs out there like us with not so much interest in such things. Or they don't want to: would rather see the sex and be entertained. Aaagh, people are so dumb, so dumb sometimes.

[identity profile] tealstorn.livejournal.com 2007-02-23 02:11 am (UTC)(link)
People draw cartoons; that's a hobby. People create clothes; that's a hobby. People go with each other and head to museums, shops, movies; it's a hobby.

For me, being furry is a hobby. Something I can enjoy and laugh and have a good time with. And you know, I can still sit back and laugh with others about my weird hobby. How is being furry no worse than spending the majority of your week collecting and organizing your stamp collection/pokemon cards/coins; building Ship-in-a-Bottles and trying to sell them; spending a heckalot money and "pimping" your ride?

And Sex, in itself, is just sex. That's all. So someone has a little fun with how they want to try it. BDSM or "The French Maid Outfit" for examples. And Karma Sutras? Those are some crazy positions, and I'd think someone was a bit weird for trying to attempt the backwards crabwalk upside-down, while wearing a french maid outfit as well as being whipped. So I don't mind at all if people think I'm a bit weird for having furry thoughts when I engage in activities. It's just sex and that's all what it comes down to, despite the different ways people have it.

By the way, where can I get some more of those paw pads for my suit? =Þ
