So this week has been a wash as far as work goes. All I actually got done was making a cat head frame, and cutting out some fabric. Bout of blah/tired/depressed/unmotivated, and then when I did manage to scrape up the energy to do something, I ended up working on, er... a personal project. Which I suppose I should do every now and then, but I still feel guilty. Oh well.

Anyhow, this is what I just finished. It's definitely a "Mark I" design, it has some issues, but overall I really like it, and I'll definitely be using the pattern again. I just have to tweak a few things. Oh, and buy all my white foam at the same time, so I don't have two different tones of white!

P.S. I just now noticed this. Kali is napping in this photo! Awww, cute! She is way cuter than the wings are. Kitty!

Something could probably be arranged about that. I'm trying to figure out what to price these things at. They take a lot of time (all those feathers!) but aren't really hard to do.

hmm...actually...what are the chances that you could make a pair of wings.... small enough to fit a Pullip?

Pullips are just about Barbie size.

I could do that. That would be easy.

I have black foam, if you wanted black. This used up all my white. I have some other colors too. Am out of wire, but I could get some tomorrow.

Cool! These ones are modeled on a hawk, did you want hawk type wings, or something more short and chibi like songbird wings, or what?

Those are pretty damn fine wings if you ask me! I love the profile, very dramatic, and well-designed. Bet that took a bit of cutting!!

I didn't notice the two tones till you mentioned it (not nearly so noticeable in the photo) but yeah, that could be a real nuisance if they're not being painted.

Painting craft foam is a pain. It's porous, so it absorbs the paint, so you have to seal it first or you get really funky texture and color problems. And of course it absorbs the sealer too, so it takes several coats. More trouble than it's worth, most of the time.

Yeah, I guess it is... I remember painting my dragon helm which was made of craft foam on a wire frame and it seemed to work fine. It does seem to show the brush strokes though, but you have to be up close to really notice. It was better to paint it blue than leave it PINK, that's for sure! *LOL*

In this case, painting all those bloody feathers would be a serious pain in the---!!! ;D Messy too, having to hold all the little pieces to completely paint them. ;P

You know, a few years back there was a halloween party we were planning to go to, and one of the projects was a set of wings. We ran into the "Okay, wings... um. How the hell do you make wings?" issue...

Those would have been darn near /perfect/. It never occoured to us to use foam, or layer it like that. I wholly approve/well done!

Craft foam is good for about a billion things. I've made wings from it before. It's useful stuff.

And thanks!

Those are beautiful wings. I'm getting a very Seraphic vibe off them, so they'd be great for angels as well as hawks. Could bat/demon/dragon style wings be created in a similar manner (it may be just as time-consuming, of course...)

Er... this is the second pair of feathered wings I've done like this, but I've done probably around a dozen bat/dragon type wings this way. So... yes? They don't take quite as long to do, but they're still a fair bit of work.

Ah, okay. Just a thought, if I should ever desire to pull off an angel/devil Hallow's Eve sequence with a friend, or some other costuming affair.

Nice work! The patterning of the shapes and the layering looks really good.

You way actually want to advertise these on a cosplay forum once you decide on pricing...I bet you could even make wings as of that from a series called "Clover"

I want some for my chair at the office.

I'd just attach them to the chair and leave 'em all the time. ^^ That'd great.

*laughs*

And kitty. <3
