...and other than one night early on when I was seriously in agony, it's just been a low-grade annoyance, I mean I haven't even griped about it on here, the UTI and then menstrating distracted me from it. But today... today my back decided it hated me. Something about all the hand sewing I've been doing, also possibly something about the ticklefight JJ and I had last night. It hurt like heck. A hot shower made it not hurt while I was in the shower, but only minutes after I got out, it was back. Thing is, sitting up ramrod straight, although good for it, makes me strain the muscles further, and so it hurts most in that position, because I'm completely tensed. I caught myself thinking about those heated back brace thingies.
Then I realized I had a possible solution right here!
I own a steel boned corset!
I never wear it, partly because it seems strange to wear a corset for no special occasion, partly because I'm incapable of properly lacing the thing on myself, and JJ isn't very good at it, so the end laces always end up coming undone and trailing behind me and making me look like an idiot. A sexy, well-shaped idiot, but still an idiot. But just around the house that hardly matters, so I got JJ to help me get into it, and lo! The pain isn't gone, but the straining that was aggravating it has vanished, and I think I might actually be able to heal now, after this lurking around for weeks. Woot!
Of course going around the house with two very long strands trailing behind me means I'm perpetually followed by Kali, trying to kill them, but oh well. She'll get plenty of exercise.

Date: 2007-04-21 03:59 am (UTC)A word of advice: Using back restraints and corsets for prolonged periods can cause problems with the muscles healing, because they're not being excersised so the healing muscle doesn't 'learn' the way to regrow right, and can result in greater problems later (Muscle fibers are Complicated, put it like that)... however, removing the strain can help immensely with the healing otherwise.
Accordingly, uncomfortable as it may be, try to spend an hour or so each day sitting up/standing properly, without the corset. This will let your back have a chance to 'train' to heal right, whilst giving you the able-to-function and improved healing the rest of the day. Either in the morning, or some point midday is the best time; but any point of the day can work in a pinch.
It's doctor advice (Her actual doctor suggested it, I just figured out why later as a point of curiosity), backed up by SCIENCE! So it must be right, right? >.>
Your friendly neighbourhood mad scientist,
Reiver :)
