I don't feel comfortable showing him off on the Windstone forums just now, given the recent explosion of drama over repaints, so I'll just show off here.

First, the most accurate-color-wise:

Then a pair with flash to show detail:

And one really dark, which is also how he looks in the display cabinet really, because it's not lit.

Wierdly enough I like the photos here better than I like him in person. In person he's much more "pearl" looking, and for some reason the flash doesn't pick up the pearl effect at all. (Didn't on my gothic PYO unicorn either.) I regretted the pearl as soon as I did it, it's not awful or anything, it just takes away a bit from the intensity of the various blues.

He's for sale, make an offer. As always, if I decide the offers aren't high enough, I'll just keep him, he's pretty spiffy.

Wow... Admittedly I tend to be biased toward blue dragons but he's really beautiful, the colors look amazing on him!

Thank you! (Not that I get much credit, most of it is the sculpture, I just did the paint job.)

oh...I missed the drama! What happened?

Hey, I know from experience how hard it can be to get a nice paint job done, so yeah, you get credit too. Sculpting isn't too hard, and once you've gotten something the way you want, it's just a matter of creating a mold and then you can make as many as you want. Painting though, has to be done individually, or it looks pretty icky.

*drools, btw* What kind of paints do you use on those?

Nice job. He's very regal-looking. Bold, black and bluetiful!

I find the up-ended corpses of dismembered pony parts in the background highly amusing... is that wrong? 0_0

Oooooh, prettyyyyyyyy. Looks really, really, good. A nice blue dragon like that would be great to have around. OF course, perpetually being broke means I can't buy near as much art as I'd like to.

Seriously gorgeous. Uh - I have no idea how much I should be offering, if I want to offer, as I'm not in the least up on the prices of Windstones. Could you tell me what would be a good starting figure so I can see if I can offer?

The paint job looks better than most of the original dragon paint colors that I've seen. But then again I'm not a collector.. xD

I have to agree with everyone else. Looks gorgeous. Now if I could get my own finances figured out I'd start buying some of these things from you.

Male dragons brand shiny new go for $130. I got him very much dinged up (Had to resculpt his nose and part of his tail) for $40. So.... somewhere in between those two figures, probably.

Painted. I've heard bad things about dye jobs gone wrong bleeding into hair and symbols. And I don't have any dye but I have lots of paint.

...although I just had an idea. Oh! I may have to strip the paint off of her and start over.

Purplecat, that was doing the airbrush repaints that everybody wanted to buy, got a cease and desist letter from John. (She didn't say, but I know he'd contacted her once before about a specific dragon, so I suspect she'd been asked nicely to stop, and refused.) Anyhow, a lot of people were getting very mad at Windstone for making her stop doing repaints. I just kind of rolled my eyes at it. She was doing things that looked exactly like factory test paints, their only difference from stuff Melody did herself was they used different colors mostly. Not even that always, as she'd done one that looked exactly like violet flame, though by accident not on purpose. She can still paint PYOs, so it's not like she's forbidden to ever make art again.

But anyhow, with everybody flinging around arguments about repainting, I figured now's not the time to share this guy.

Uh - if I offer $70, will that be enough? Shen is a huge fan of dragons, and his favorite colors are blue and silver, and he has a birthday comin' ...

Date: 2007-06-14 11:21 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] bladespark.livejournal.com
Sure, $70 should be quite sufficient!

Nice job! I'm tempted but the male is not my fav. If you ever do a lap or a fledgie let me know. ;-)

I have always loved the color blue- and if I wasn't already in too deep money wise, I think I would have to start collecting- with THAT fantastic artwork! You do such nice work!

I doubt I ever will. I got him because he was broken, and just $40 including shipping. I've never seen a lap or fledgie that cheap, not even busted ones.

Awesome. Where should I send the money, and in what form? Paypal, check, money order, etc.?

From: [identity profile] bladespark.livejournal.com
Paypal is probably simplest. spark.costumes@gmail.com is the address.

That is awesome. Eventually I want a Windstone, but I would be stupid to buy one in the next, oh, seven to ten years. Kids wreak havoc on anything fragile.
