I think I'm easily amused. But I find it funny that more people care about bottled water than about DRM issues, at least according to the comments I get. *grins* Heck, more people seem to care about bottled water than about most stuff I post.

One can just never predict what's going to draw comments on lj, seems.

In other news, today I got ponies! Bait for another future custom project, plus two for the collection. I have my little boy blue again. I thought of him as a guy when I got him. Actually he wasn't, he was a girl named Ember, but she didn't have any butt symbol at all, so I could make her whatever I want, thus she was the younger brother of my other ponies. Also the black pony project pony, which is the only pony ever made in black, as far as I know, and thus interests me greatly.

Digital Rights Management. (Sorry! I forget not everybody shares my enthusiasms.) DRM is the stuff that makes it impossible to play a DVD on your computer sometimes, or to play certain songs you bought from itunes for one computer on a different computer. It's meant to protect against piracy, but pirates can crack DRM and copy the stuff anyhow, while honest users just get annoyed about it, because they can't listen to songs they've bought.

I've mentioned the same phenomenon myself, and the response I got was something like "people comment on things they know. Thus, something like 'Kitty!' will garner many hundreds of responses, because most people have or know kitties, whereas 'A treatise on why ERA is a crap statistic' will only attract baseball nuts, and thus have fewer comments." I'm not sure if it means anything one way or another, but it appears that when you post something that people understand and relate to, they're more likely to comment. A corollary will probably be that art posts generally garner "Wow, pretty!" and "I could never do that" at a high rate compared to someone who will honestly critique it. (I take as my evidence, although much of it probably isn't considered art by many, comments to fan fiction.)

True enough.

I think it's actually partly because the people on your f-list who know about DRM, well, know about DRM, while the people who don't don't know enough to ask questions/comment.

While bottled water, well, everyone knows that it's overpriced (and we all like complaining about things that are overpriced), and everyone in the UK remembers the Dasani debacle over here...

There is also the issue of timing, which is not something that you can really go wrong on or right with. Some people just don't see or notice entries due to massive numbers of other entires on their friends lists, and such things like that. Or being offline, or not in a place they feel able to log in and read entries comfortably. Some people are lazy at random times too, or feel they have nothing to add if it's a thoughtful or informative entry.

I think that the commenting on what they know is probably the most common reason, though.

I think bottled water applies to a more universal audience. That's why it got more of a response; more people know and have an opinion about bottled water.
