He's just chilling right now. I can see why they do get called "pet rocks" as he's quite happy to just sit there. That's okay. He's pretty active when handled so far, and I'm sure he'll be moreso as he gets used to being here.

*headsplode*

Cute story about a ball python. I was working at a pet store way back when. The owner purchased 25 ball pythons from a breeder. We were putting them in bags with fuzzies, but somehow one of them got put in a bag with a mostly grown hopper type mouse. That mouse chewed a hole in the snake, and somehow the snake survived.

I took him home and nurtured him back to health, then named him "Notch". In spite of his trauma, he was a voracious eater. In fact, he was almost vengeful against the rodent race the way he'd go after mice.

He eventually went to a great home.

That's kinda cool. This guy's on f/t, so I shouldn't have to worry about accidents with his dinner taking a chunk out of him.

Hey again. Cool.

I'm glad to hear that you finally got your dream pet. He's really cute too. I know this sounds awkward, I'm just happy for you.Oh, and I really liked your entry about our country. I couldn't agree more with you. But that's a different topic... Anyway, congrats on your new friend!

He's cute. And if he likes being played with, that'll be an even bigger benefit. Just so long as he doesn't try too hard to bite you.

SOOOO CUTE! Heh. When I asked our apartment manager about snakes as pets, she recoiled and was all "what if it gets loose? No. No snakes." Bah. Stupid people afraid of snakes. I've always loved reptiles.

I won't say that ball pythons never bite, but it's practically unheard of. The reason they're called ball pythons is because their response to perceived threats is to curl up in a ball with their head on the inside. The only time they'll bite a human is if your hands smell like rodent and you happen to wiggle a finger just like a mouse when one is hungry.

So long as you keep them well-fed and your hands clean of the scent, then you're doing just fine. I have no idea how hard it is to get rodent off you, but we'll find out, right?

*chuckles* It's quite easy. I think you may be confusing ball pythons with some other, much more aggressive snake. Even if you don't bother to wash your hands, bites are still incredibly rare.

I haven't mentioned him to the apartment manager here at all. There's nothing specific about snakes in their pet policy, so I figure that what they don't know can't hurt 'em, and I'm not going to bring it up.

Oh, no - I've held a ball python before. I think it's just my fear of consequences striking again, that has me wondering about incredibly rare events and such.

Pretty patterns!

Snakes are not terribly active unless they need to be - it's an energy-conservation trick, which, given their low metabolism, allows them to stay long periods between meals.

Endothermic creatures are sort of the odd ones, given that mammals need to keep moving in order to maintain their heat, at which point they need to be active in order to find enough food to maintain the energy levels to keep moving in order to stay warm-- you get the idea. :)

Heh. I remember when you were filling out every field except "Text" with "Kitty!" I suppose the old cliché rings true yet again: The more things change, the more they snake the snake snake. Snake.

He looks pretty cool. :)

Aww! He's SO cute!
If he was mine, I don't think I could keep my hands off him... I'd love to have a really huge one that could just wrap around my shoulders and chillax there.

I don't really want to feed someting little rabbits though. Maybe chickens, but not bunnies! <:(

He he he. Well, at his biggest he'll be eating rabbits, and will be just about right for shoulder wrapping, really.

If you really want to be sexy at that time, you may have to change his name to Nagini. lol

I think I could feed a snake named Nagini rabbits, actually. Just for the novelty.

I had a total brainfart. RATS, not rabbits! You saying rabbits got me thinking rabbits.

Oh, rats are okay.
They're smart, but kind of ugly. And they just don't have that mute innocence like bunnies.

I would be fine with rats.
