Not quite twenty pounds. (Or somewhere around ten kilos, if we're being metric.)

It is heavy, but it's not really the weight, it's the friction of it against the ground which makes it hard to wear. I tried wearing it for a bit, and ended up with it over my shoulder, which just sort of makes me vanish into the tail.

sorry to pop in without being your LJ friend, but one of your friends linked me here after seeing my fursona's tail.

do you have any way to give.. armature to a tail like that? and are these tails as awkward as they look?

It weighs about twenty pounds, and is too long for any armature to hold it up off the ground without requiring some VERY serious engineering. So no. They intended more as body pillows than actual wearing tails, and even worn should be carried over the shoulder rather than trailed behind. Or held up by a friend, or something.

Now I CAN do large tails with an armature, just not twelve feet worth of large. Principles of leverage. The pressure at the base of it increases the longer the tail gets, even if you don't increase the weight any.

Ah. Well, that's shorter than twelve feet, it looks to be around seven or eight, judging by that sheet. Still very difficult to make standing up though, especially given the thickness. I could quite easily make a hanging tail like that, particularly if you're okay with white. (It looks like very pale gray in the reference, which I don't have any fabric for. But I have oodles of really nice fluffy white.)

I'd have to do some experimenting to see if I could get a working brace and harness arrangement to get it to stand up though. Not sure. It's bigger than any standing tail I've done thus far.

And I approve of tail carrying midgets. Small children also work, and are cheaper to hire, you can bribe them with candy. Just give it to them /after/ or they'll get the tail sticky. *grin*

the tail is actually white yes :) i did the sheet on a monitor that wasnt colour calbrated so.. yeah =|

basically im willing to wear any suggestions youve got. I dont want it to look like a limp sack of grain stuck to my butt, which is my main concern.

What kind of price would we be looking at, also? I live in australia if you want to factor in shipping :)

well, it's a lot of sewing and a lot of fabric, probably we'd be talking in the range of $150 and possibly upwards.

Limp sack wise, the easiest sorts of spines curve down, and as I really should practice my tail bracings, I think I could do something that would at least improve the shape coming off your spine, so you get that downward arch, without any extra charge. I'm not so sure about holding it up completely, or getting the second upward curve in, that adds a lot of weight and thus a lot of trouble, but I can at least keep it from just hanging there!

Shipping to Australia sadly isn't cheap. I need to go look it up, but off the top of my head I'd say probably around $30 more for shipping it.

Random comment and thought: body harness, instead of just attachment to something at the waist and possibly a belt and things? Something that goes up over the shoulders and down the front maybe? Trying to remember my physics from backpacking equipment.

its definately doable id say. id have to pay it off (im currently only on a disability pension that comes in fortnightly) but i could manage it, and the time it took for me to pay it off would give you ample time to fiddle around and experiment.

Id also be looking for a pair of large ears, in white, similar to the fennec ears you have on your site :) I already have a pair of ears and a small tail from Rose Quoll but Im not happy with the tail, as my fursona has such a large one :)
