A reporter goes to a furry con in disguise, expecting to find something strange, wild, and steamy.

Finds a furry con, which is more or less geeks, art, scritches, and adults bouncing around being silly like children, really.

And it particularly amused me because this is the second article I've seen where the writer was like "Where are the fursuit orgies? I was expecting fursuit orgies!" Except in the last one they sort of put in every remotely steamy bit they could find, and the entire thing came over sort of "we know you're hiding those fursuit orgies somewhere, freaks!" whereas this one is more... charmed by the furry culture.

Oh, and it features my friend Coyoty, whose fursuit I made! *waves at Coyoty.* And a spiffy picture of a killer suit by ArtSlave, who does awesome suits.

He just didn't get invited to the right parties. The orgies happen at Furry Parties, where you will catch Teh Ghey (tm) from all the preverts.

He seems so... disappointed that all his expectations were not only not being met, but had no hints at all that they were happening just out of his view. Poor sod probably only got a couple pages out of what he wanted to be a multi-issue expose on the deviants.

It's a she, not a he.

And sure, she'd have loved a freaky expose, but she didn't try to manufacture one, and in fact pointed out a lot of good, happy, positive stuff.

That's doing better than any other article on furries by non-furries that I've ever seen.

She, right, I realized that about five seconds after posting the comment. This is why I wish comments could be edited. But, correction made, no lasting harm done. I'll go to bed early tonight to try and make sure that I actually can keep my genders straight tomorrow.

And it's a great article. Accuracy is a major plus when it comes to journalism.

I know the feeling, I've been going to those cons for a few years now and the wild sex parties are impossible to find :<

Still, I found a lot of crazy like minded people so I guess it was all worth while.

He he he. You have to know the right people. I've been to a room party that I'm pretty sure turned into a yiff party at some point after I left, given what was going on WHEN I left! I had to growl at somebody for letting his scritches wander, and everybody else in the room was cuddling and not growling, if you know what I mean. I decided at that point that I should probably go.

X3 *non-wandering ear scritching*

Still, I found it very amusing that she has dressed up for a furry-con more then I ever have.

*purrrrr* Non-furries seem to think the costumes are a requirement of some sort.

Neat article, thanks for posting. ^^ Feels like a small victory seeing the furry community get media attention that's honest rather than sensational.

I don't know if your interested ...

So, does this mean that the people I've personally known who've gotten into furrydom and changed significantly for the worse both morally and socially are the exception? Most of my bad perception has come from seeing acquaintances and friends get obsessed with furry porn and going on into bestiality and such from there...

.....You know that I happen to be furry? That a great many of my friends are furry? I'm sure you don't mean to sound insulting with this, but you kind of do.

"Furry" in and of itself is one thing, and one thing only. The enjoyment of animals. Be it art, movies, literature, spirituality, or porn, that's all up to the individual. The fandom itself doesn't require anything at all but liking animals. If your friends are getting obsessed with furry porn and doing nasty things because of it, that has more to do with their character than with the fandom. I got into furry, and it didn't cause me to want to screw dogs. I don't personally happen to know anybody who's screwed a dog, in fact. Of course I've seen furry porn of people doing such things. It's hard to avoid entirely. (For one thing I've had SEVERAL customers send me graphically explicit images as references for their projects. You'd think they'd know better, and most do, but there's always a few.) But furry porn is not some kind of drug-like thing that takes you over against your will. What kind of person YOU are determines how you react to it. Some people get titillated, I generally just go "ew," and the fandom contains the full spectrum of responses in between.

It was not meant to be insulting at all. I know you're a furry, which is why I asked. I was genuinely interested in knowing if this was a good indication that the people I've known who have gotten into furrydom were all coincidentally disturbed. This was just from my own experience, and I'm sorry for offending you, because I didn't mean to.

Sorry. I'm just sick to death of trying to explain that furry has nothing directly to do with any of the kinky sexual stuff people associate with it. So I tend to be a little twitchy on the subject.

There ARE at lot of "yiffy" furs, but the fandom is about 30% composed of teenage males. So... yeah. Teenage males tend to be pretty oversexed. Most of them get over it when they grow up a little. The porn is there, and the bestiality, and all that. But even for the people who are into that, it's often just a side feature, and not the real reason that furry attracts them. I actually conducted a survey about it once. http://bladespark.livejournal.com/225525.html Even on a forum dedicated to furry porn, most people said that sexuality wasn't the primary reason they were in the fandom. And, speaking of that forum, I'm on two fursuit forums besides the one I run. On the porn board, all topics are open, sexual or non, on the other it's strictly G rated. Guess which of the two is more active? The G rated board, by about five times as many posts. Same thing with livejournal. The fursuit community that's no porn allowed is huge compared to the all ratings one.

Anyhow, sorry if I sounded rude, it's just kind of something that frustrates me sometimes.

I'm sorry I hit a nerve. After reading the article I was pleased by the thought that the biases from my personal experience might be wrong, and once again, I apologize that didn't come across in my initial comment.

I'll also add that I'm relieved to have no reason to feel guilty for liking plenty of anthro art. :)

Heee! Nope, no reason to be guilty. Honestly a lot of the best art I've seen lately has been furry. There are some really awesome artists on Deviant art that tend to do anthro stuff. And dragons. Dragons are always good.
