I came up with an idea I don't hate, so I'm giving this "adoptable" thing a try.

What is an adoptable?
An adoptable is art that the artist draws first and then "adopts" out to others. (Rather than the more usual sort of commission, where the customer requests the art and then it's drawn afterwards.) There are a number of differnt types of adoptables, and a number of different ways to run them. The most common is for an artist to use a template to draw a batch of similar character, each with unique markings or other features, and let people "adopt" them as personal characters. However this has never quite sat well with me, since in that case you are getting nothing tangible and have no input in what gets made, you just pick out a character, pay for it, and then usually do nothing much with it.

What exactly do you get when you get an adoptable then?
You get the "right" to the character. I put this in quotes because legally speaking there's really no such thing. The artist still owns the copyright of the art itself, artists always maintain that unless they specifically sell it. And you can't actually take somebody else to court for "stealing" your character, should they happen to draw a species and markings combination that looks just like yours. It's frowned on in the furry community, but it's quite legal. However, an adoptable is more or less a gentleman's agreement that you and you alone will get to own the character you adopt, so many people find that quite worthwhile.

My adoptables are a little nicer, because you get a small bit of input into the final design, (you can select the type of dragon, eastern, western, etc.) and you also get a physical piece of artwork, if you so desire, since I do traditional art rather than digital. :)

My dragon egg adoptables are a little bit like that dragon cave game. Except on the upside your dragon will be unique, unlike anybody else's. And you won't have to harass everybody you know to click on it to get it to hatch and grow up! You can also get the originals mailed to you if you like, so you get something a bit more concrete. The only down side is that yes, it costs money. Not much though. :D

Dragon ages:
Egg
Hatchling
Baby
Juvenile
Adult
Ancient

How to adopt:
The first step is to give me $1 and let me know which egg you want. The egg drawing then belongs to you, to use as you see fit.*

If you have a preference for a type of dragon (western, eastern, anthro, wyvern, feathered, fuzzy, etc.) or if you dislike a type of dragon, please let me know before proceeding to the next step. If you have no preference that's fine too.

The next step is to send me $8 so I can draw your dragon all hatched out.

Then just send $8 whenever you'd like your dragon to grow up. :D You can send me $40 all at once and I'll draw the entire line all the way through, or you can send $8 along whenever you feel like getting a new pic and I'll take care of it then. Whatever time scale works for you.

These are MUCH cheaper than my normal commissions, where colored line work will run you $20 per picture. So hop on 'em now, and get a steal.

Eggs:
Black and red - Available
Rainbow - Ariana's
Sky - Harli's
Purple and green - Harli's
Natural - Harli's

*For personal, non-profit use only. If you want to sell prints or otherwise make money from any of this adoptable art, you'll need to arrange for additional rights.

Okay. If nobody else gets them, then I will as soon as I have money. Let me know if someone does though, please?

I will. If I do sell them, I'll definitely be doing another batch, too. :)
