Plan A....

I'm cutting this, because it's looooooong. Please read! I need help, and I'm hoping somebody can help me. I don't know if this idea will work, but I can't just sit back and do nothing.

This is a message from Stephanie Park, also known as SPark, FlameSong, Serapha, Aidan, Bladespark and YinWolf. I’m sending this out by every medium available to me, including live journal, e-mail, and assorted forums. I apologize if any of you get more then one copy of this. If you’re getting this by e-mail, you e-mailed me about something or other at some point, and that‘s why I‘ve got your address. If you don’t want this, I apologize for the spam, and if you let me know, I’ll remove your address from my book and not bother you again.

The problem

That said, on to the reason for this whole thing. I am in the midst of a minor financial crisis. I realize that there are those out there who are far worse off than I. Nevertheless, things are not going well with me, and I need to raise a minimum of $300 within the next two weeks.

You see, I have committed to attend BoardieCon ‘05. If you’re not familiar with it, BoardieCon is a small, more or less invite-only convention for the dedicated boardies, or fans of the CRFH web comic. As most of my close friends are found within the CRFH fandom, BoardieCon is the one time in the year I get to see those people in person. I was unable to attend last year, but I am completely determined to make it this year, by whatever means possible. In addition to this commitment, I have also promised my boyfriend that I will spend several weeks with him this summer. This trip must follow BoardieCon, because the way things are set up at work, I can get one month off much more readily than I can get two different periods in different months off. This makes a mess of my flights though. I need a one-way ticket to BoardieCon in Washington, a one-way ticket to the BF in North Carolina, and then a one-way ticket back home to Utah. So far I have not been able to find any combination of flights, whether purchased singly or as a set, that costs less than $500. Taking all expenses and upcoming bills into consideration, I have barely $200 I can set aside to purchase plane tickets with.

So, to sum up, I need to raise an additional $300, preferably within the next two weeks.

Unfortunately my usual method of raising funds, auctioning off goods on furbid, is failing me. Recent auctions have, universally, failed to sell. So, on to plan B, which I why I’m bothering you.

The solution

I’m doing a reverse auction. Which is to say, I’m naming a sum, the $300 I need, and you folks get to turn in bids for what you want in return for that sum. (I am also accepting small donations through paypal, sparkling_image@hotmail.com if you want to help out but don’t have $300 handy.)

How it works

I need $300 in profit. Flat out, no other options, I must have that much, no less. Somewhere out there, I’m sure there are some of you who need something I can provide, and have $300 you could spend. This is an attempt to get you and I together by letting you know of the opportunity.

This is not a plea for charity. Do not feel obligated to respond if you genuinely don’t want anything I have to offer. I want to trade a fair service for a fair price. That said, I have a broad range of talents, and I’m quite certain that there’s something I could do for any of you!

So what is a fair service for the price of $300? I have no idea. I want you to tell me. What do you think it’s worth? Send me a bid, and when all bids have arrived, I’m going to chose the one that’s “lowest,” that is, the one that will be easiest for me to do, and that person will win my reverse auction. It’s possible there will be only one bid, and whoever sends it in can name what they want. Full fursuits, elaborate sets of artwork, anything they want. It’s possible, however, that the winning bid will be something simple. One really nice drawing, a set of a half-dozen tails, something relatively small, and the people wanting to get a huge deal won’t win it. So keep that in mind when you send in your bids.

Artwork. Paintings, drawings, sculpture. (3-d art found under the “misc” category, and for $300 I will make an exception to my G-PG only rule. Though I‘ll go only to R, not to XXX.)

Writing. Fiction, poetry, essays, nonfiction.

Webpages. I hand-code html. Check out any of the above for examples.

Chainmail. Specializing in scale mail

Sewing/costuming. I can sew anything with a pattern, and can make up/modify patterns to get almost anything else.

Other stuff. I don’t know, but if you can think of something I might do for you that’s not listed here, go ahead and stick it in a bid. I’m willing to try anything once.

The catch

Catch one is that I need the money by the schedule listed below, namely, within 10 days of now. So you don’t have much time to come up with it.

Catch two is about when you’ll get your item, should you win the bidding. Namely, I can’t say for sure. A lot if it depends, of course, on what the bid is. Simple stuff goes faster than complex. Also, part of the problem is that previous commissions, for people who’ve already paid, have what little spare time I have tied up until I go on the trip. So unless you’re after something I can do pretty darn quick, I won’t be able to start until the end of July, when I get back. We’re probably looking at whatever you need being done by the end of August.

The third catch is that the $300 must be PROFIT. So if you want, for example, fursuit stuff, you’ll either have to pay extra for fur and supplies, or else take something made entirely from what I have on hand. (I do not currently have enough of any one fabric to make a whole fursuit.) This may not be all bad though. I have six huuuuuuuge boxes filled with fur fabric, including black, white, grey, wolf, lynx, striped, plain, long, short… you get the idea.

Schedule

All bids are due in 3 days, by May21 I will pick the winning bid at midnight on that date, and will contact the winner at that time. The payment, in full, will be due within one week of that time, on May30 So if you won’t have funds by then, please do not bid!

Bidding is a contract, and I will HUNT YOU DOWN, (or worse, have Bob and JJ hunt you down) if you fail to fulfill it!

That said, I’m not trying to scare you off, and I will do everything I can to accommodate the needs of the winning bidder. As I said, I want this to be a fair exchange, not a charitable donation.

So think up something you’d like and bid! You’ll be getting some great stuff, I don’t produce junk! And you’ll be donating to a good cause, namely letting a poor gal who lives 500 miles from anything interesting go visit her friends and boyfriend. Come on, pity me, I’m stuck in Utah!

And thanks a ton, all of you.

P.S. If you know anybody who might be interested, pass this on! I’ll take all the publicity I can get!

Merf, I actually wanted to bid on your fursuit head auction and I lost track of it -.- I didn't see this post until too late anyways. I hope you had luck in getting the funds you needed.

The auction didn't sell, actually. *shrugs* I did manage to get what I needed, just barely, though, so all's good. And if you're still interested, I am open for ordinary commissions. Drop me a line, sparkling_image@hotmail.com
