Happy Holidays, etc. etc.

We celebrated Christmas Eve with a party with JJ's family that was amusing. We played Rock Band, ate lots of food, and exchanged candles in a kind of White Elephant swap. Was quite fun. Tomorrow (later today?) there will be a more low-key Christmas Dinner, but I already opened my presents such as they were. :)

I got some money from my mother. She also sent me some freeze-dried food and a solar flashlight for our bug-out bag, which she has been slowly stocking over the last couple of years. And a small package that felt like a softbound book, which I just now actually unwrapped. It is her life story. She's been writing it for the last several years, and finally got it done. It's bound like a real book and everything. I don't think you could buy it on Amazon, but it is a very nice little book, and makes a good gift for family. JJ already flipped through and read all the bits he appears in. :D My brother got me an Amazon gift card. (He drew me in the sibling swap this year. Years ago we started doing that, because that way you got one nice gift from a sibling rather than getting four stupid cheap ones.) He e-mailed it to me, which kind of makes me laugh. I have never gotten a real present by e-mail before. I also got a patchouli candle, which I am burning right now, so my room smells like hippie.

And I bought myself a few little things too, but Christmas presents from you to you probably don't count. I may also get something from my MIL tomorrow, though on Sunday she gave me a really EPIC long coat which I love. But she gives me second-hand clothing a lot, so I don't think that was intended as a Christmas gift, it was just another find in her vast wardrobe. We are very similarly sized, and she loves to shop and get herself new clothes that she wears once and then clears out to make room for new, so I get a lot of her secondhand clothing. About half my wardrobe at this point used to be hers.

Anyhow, it's been a pretty low-key year all in all, but also pretty good.

I am considering doing a post-holidays gift swap with friends, btw. I'd really wanted to do an epic small gifting this year, like the years when I've given small plush or fuzzy ornaments or soap or whatever to most of my friends, but I just didn't have the time or organization to do so, but it seems like it might be nice to do a January gift swap, for people who like that kind of thing and also didn't have time in all the holiday rush. Comment here if you're interested in that.
