I had somebody anon-ask me on tumblr to tell me that I shouldn't "fetishize" gay couples for my own "pleasure." As far as I can tell it was in response to a post I'd made just before that mentioning that I'm writing a boatload of Aziraphale/Crowley Good Omens smut.

It made me laugh, and also made me respond "I'm gay, dipshit."

Assuming that somebody writing gay smut must be some kind of… Well, I suppose straight cis woman is the assumption here? Assuming that is so amusing to me.

For the record, I don’t think straight cis women liking gay male porn is exactly a problem. What porn you like is between you and your junk, and God if you roll that way. :3 So long as you’re not fag-hagging real gay men, who cares?

But seriously. I didn’t latch on to the Ineffable Husbands and start writing a million kinky fics about them because OMG THE FETISH, it’s because OMG IT’S ME! I am like 30/70 Crowley/Aziraphale as a person (Deep insecurity alternating with awesome coolness and looks I *totally* pull off, way into food, slightly too soft about the middle but I only care because I don’t fit my favorite shirt right now and oh, yeah, really obsessing about clothes too much, that’s probably both of them, loving books way too much, and wanting everything to stay just the way it is and why do I have to keep learning new computer programs, Somebody dammit!)

It’s not “Ooo, hot!” it’s “Ooo, relatable! And I could say things about desire and security/insecurity and love and lust and the way I feel about my partner and…”

So yeah.

I’m gay, dipshit. :D

The anti comments like this are ridiculous, especially when it's fanfic we're talking about.

Oh, on Tumblr everything is fetishizing, problematic, toxic, or abusive in some way or another unless it's vanilla sex with your perfect partner who's no more than three months younger or older than you, in your perfect relationship. Also, the default assumption is that you're a fifty year old white cishet person being horrible unless or until you can prove with documents in triplicate that you are, fact, not all or none of those things, and maybe do have some experience of what you're talking about. Tumblr used to make my eyes roll so hard it's a wonder they never got stuck.

I never joined Tumblr because it was One More Account. I'm glad now because it turned into A Mess. Good for sharing memes and whatnot (I guess that's shitposting since it's all posting shit), good for making personal comment on various subjects, bad for pretty much everything else I can think of. And full of reminders that lots of people don't really grow up and mature.

Essentially, yes, and that's a fairly common argument as to why fic shouldn't be taken seriously that this person is trying to repeat uncritically - if it's all bored housewives and their festishes, it couldn't possibly be real literature or meritorious storytelling.

"I'm gay, dipshit" is a very polite dismissal.

While it is, indeed, a polite dismissal, I think it's not only hilarious, it is nigh unto a true ROFLMAO dismissal. :-)

This is funny. I was conversing with a friend on LJ who is gay, explaining what slashfic is. He reads AO3 and somehow hadn't come across the term, I don't know how. And he didn't know that a huge amount, if not most, of the M/M material on AO3 is written by women! He was a little shocked and amused at this. I was telling him that a slashcon that my wife and I occasionally attend in Vegas is almost entirely women, and that of the two others that I've attended with her, they were 95-98%+ women.

And I'm really looking forward to reading your story when you post it on AO3! My wife is beginning work on a Good Omens piece, I know nothing about it at this point. She was working on a monster-sized Rivers of London/Midsomer Murders piece and stalled out, I really hope she gets back to it.
