Write Every Day, December 9th

My toddler apparently turned off my "post stuff!" alarm while I was out of the room for a moment.

Kids, I tell you. At least I remembered eventually?

Today has basically been entirely full of fail (the alarm getting turned off has been the least of it) but I got an alibi paragraph written. It feels like I've done basically nothing at all this month, and yet I do have nearly 1k words on one fic and a similar total pile of words across several others, so progress continues, even if it's slow.

It's the nice thing about WED. Without doing the alibi paragraphs, I probably would have written one day so far, and sure that one day was productive, and the rest haven't been, but those unproductive days have added up all the same.

That's one of the things I love about the WED challenge, too, that even if it doesn't seem like I'm making words or accomplishing anything, there IS a cumulative effect. I'm glad you're finding the same is true for you. :-)

I added 716 words to the fanfic I started yesterday, and I think I've finished it. I'll need to review it with fresh eyes tomorrow, just to be sure.

I wrote the first 1K of a fic that still hasn't got to its actual goddamn fucking premise

(like, there are excellent reasons he didn't lead with "so last night drunk you tried to do at least four things I had no idea sober you ever even thought about, all of which would be excellent things if sober you were trying them; wanna talk about it?", but also since he has brought up exactly one of these things in the first 1K—and that's the one that he had to handle fastest in order to minimize her future regrets, not any of those that could safely wait till she brushed her teeth, and certainly not the premise-crucial one—this is clearly not going to be a fic with a four-digit word count)

and I didn't check how many words went into the meta slash fic prompt I just posted but that's a thing too

He hehe. It's funny how ideas that seem so short in our heads end up so long! I've had that happen a lot. Sounds like it's moving along, at least.

Day 9: 380 words on the Yuletide assignment tonight. Not too happy with those 380 words, but I'm pretty sleepy and they're the best I can manage tonight. As you say, even the unproductive days add up, and give you something to work with.

Slow progress is still progress. The fact that someone somewhere on the internet is tracking whether or not I write a thing every day is so very helpful with getting me to do something even if it's just 227 words of a scene written at the very end of my day like it was today. (thank you again for hosting this month) We all put those words down and they didn't stay in our heads until we felt more like writing or until we've forgotten the idea entirely. And tomorrow we'll build on them.

Apparently yesterday I was farther from done than I thought I was, because 2100 words and I'm still not at the end. I hope to finish it off tomorrow, but that's mostly dependent on me figuring out how to end it. :-P

I am in the very same boat this month! To be fair, I have a lot going on. But aside from just a couple days (both motivated by peer pressure), I've just been doing a smattering of words per day, today (Day 9) included.

Yep, December is such a busy month. But you're trucking along pretty well, seems like.

I again only had time to write late in the evening, and I procrastinated endlessly and read fanfic and so forth, but I did at last gobble together a little under 200 words of the novel. I am wondering if I need to give my 100-words-of-novel-a-day goal a rest soon, because I'm finding it a bit harder again to know what to write, and some other projects could use my attention in the near future.

Alibi sentence for Monday - I was still totally wiped from Sunday's writing marathon.

It feels like I've done basically nothing at all this month, and yet I do have [...]
I hear you on that! And you're right, one of the appeals of WED is that the alibi sentences add up, and keep you going, and might also increase your productive day count over time. When I started three years ago, alibi sentence often meant the shortest of sentences at all. Today, they're mostly at least 100 words with less than a handful of exceptions, and even December so far hasn't been bad, wordcount-wise, although I feel like accomplishing nothing and running crazily to and fro. Kudos to your slow but steady progress!
I wrote every day so far this month, and am at nearly 10k, so it can't be as bad as it feels, right? My assumed alibi sentence day were not to bad either; ~700 on the 6th and 7th each, 1,1k on the 8th, and 200 on the 9th. By the way, you missed putting me in for the 4th; I reported in for that on the 5th as well. I also wrote a few lines already today (10th), but haven't counted them yet as I'm yet to sit down for proper writing.
