Write Every Day, December 10th

This month is flying by, and every day it seems like there's far too much to do, and far too little time and energy to do it in!

Fortunately I'm still gamely soldiering on with the writing. Though I just got back some editing suggestions on a short story going into one of Thurston Howl's anthologies, and they want some actual re-writing. Siiiiiiiiiiiigh. They're right, it'll be better, but ugh.

plotting collab fic. collab was 3/4 accidental and I was surprised to discover collaborator wasn't adding to it because he thought I am up to something and not discussing it with him and he was having trouble figuring out what it was

I hadn't given any thought to plot for this at all, just ways to make amusing and vaguely-related funny groupchat vignettes go

but now there has been some discussion had and he's working on the next bit and it's gonna be great

also I started to watch the episode I need to rewatch to get details for the next scene of firelight but then I got distracted

Collaboration is so hard to get to work! I've almost never succeeded, except with the guy who turns out I vibe very well with and, you know, went and married.

Tonight, I wrote a 954-word smutfest with feels for a throwback pairing I haven't written in a long while. It was nice to revisit them and to discover they're just as sarcastic and frisky as ever. ;-)

I feel like December is a month that is very stretched out and takes forever but also so full of stuff and obligations that claiming some time back to actually be productive is very hard indeed.

Case in point today was Mum's birthday so I had dinner at the parents house and hung out there for a while which of course messed with my normal after work schedule. Still, made myself type up the next batch of stuff I found in the notebook, this one a sort of character summary / summation of the story as I understood it at the time from the POV of one of the POV characters. Reinforced that really I hate the ending as is and will need to fix it. Still fixing the middle first though!

I SO feel you there. December is creeping by, I was desperate to get to the 12th for personal reasons and I so want it to be Solstice already and yet there's so much to do and yikes, how is the month this far gone?

Getting words out in spite of all that is definitely an accomplishment, even if they do need revision later. So good for soldiering on!

It helps when they tell you up front that the exercises are designed to put your brain through the wringer, so not to be too concerned when they end in difficulty or you don't get to complete them.

Forewarned is forearmed? I've just had more my brainweasels, my toddler, my work, and some body stuff all ganging up on me today. The "nibbled to death by ducks" problem! Any one of them is manageable, or even several of them, but all at once, enough ducks can take anybody down. :3

Quack. I hear this. Sounds like all of the ducks add up to at least one horrible goose's worth of trouble.

Ha! Yes. It is much more fun to be the goose than to be the butt of the goose's misdeeds, put it that way.

December 10: 378 words in one scene that is dragging on and on. To be fixed later with help from my overworked beta!

Dec 10: 1200 words, plus revision of the 12K I had when I finished yesterday. Still not quite done with the draft, hiss and spit. I so wanted to be done today, and today was my last full day to work on it this week.

Dec 11: 881 words on TTF #7, and I got beta back on TTF #6 and gave it a final read-through. Will put the changes in tomorrow morning and post then. \o/

I actually managed to do a little bit of writing last night for the first time this month. Which was actually mostly re-writing so no net new words but at least it was something.

And then I got an inspiration when I was in the shower getting ready for bed, so hopefully I can get that down tonight.

Nearly forgot to check in for Day 10 - I did write. I tried a writing exercise I've been wanting to do for a while and enjoyed it a lot, and got several hundred words of writing out of it, and I also worked on my novel a bit. :-)

Checking in for Day 11. 217 new words and half an hour of typing up the last of the story parts still sitting in the notebook. There's about three pages of timeline notes still to get typed up and then I will not be able to fill time on any given day by typing things up, everything will have to be new! (The horror)

I'm also basically out of pages in my notebook so tomorrow will involve stopping by Staples and picking up a new one. Toying with the idea of picking up some index cards too for organizational purposes. Said in October that I wanted Tony Stark's holograms and possibly sticking ideas on index cards and moving them around on the floor or on the fridge will have to do.

Woot! I've added you to the 11th list, which I'm just now posting, 5+ hours later than usual. It's been that kind of day here.

New notebooks are kinda fun, I feel? Certainly the accomplishment of filling one is awesome. Good luck on the "all new" words once you get there!

Checking in again for Dec. 11: alibi sentence. (I started a new job today and am pretty fried, so I'm actually pretty proud of writing an alibi sentence!)

Yeah, that's how I feel about even doing the tally/replying to people today. Might end up counting that as my own words, because sometimes these things happen. Congrats to you for soldiering on, however few the words.
