I am a little bit tipsy today, so forgive if my comments to people come out strange. :3 I ran some errands, including getting a growler fill of a very pleasant raspberry cider, which I have already opened and consumed much of. I could talk about my rather complicated relationship with alcohol, but I'll leave that for another day, and say for now that it really does loosen up the social anxiety quite nicely.

Writing-wise I am into crunch-time for the Jingleclop exchange, only three days left! I think I can do it, but I really do have to bang (ha!) out some words today. I've done a couple of lines, and I'm hoping and praying that my kiddo goes to sleep at a reasonable hour and gives me some evening free time. It's near impossible to write, (especially to write porn!) when she's demanding my attention. And then of course I also owe my Patrons several things, need to sew for my "day job", need to do more cleaning because the house is still a disaster, etc.

Cue me running about like the proverbial chicken.

But I think I can make it! There is something very motivating about deadlines, even if they're also rather stressful.

For the 17th: I finished the current draft of my Yuletide fic. It needs editing/rewriting, but most of all it needs a different ending. The one I've got is ... not right. Argh.

Good luck with your exchange fic! You totally can do it! Deadlines are definitely motivating. (Sometimes I think deadlines are the only reason I ever get anything done at all. *g*)

my Yuletide assignment went from "zero words and only a vague idea; thank fuck this sign-up has multiple five-minute fandoms because I may need to change canons" to "1.7K bus pass posted" in three hours, with (at the time of posting the bus pass draft) about nine hours to deadline, and I did not need to change canons

also I didn't think I'd checked in on the sixteenth (on account of I didn't write on the sixteenth) and indeed I have not

Good luck! Deadlines are very motivating but they can also take years off one's life.

About a page and a half today. Not much, and I won't be typing it up tonight, but it's a start on the scene I was thinking of yesterday.

You commented on my process when you responded to yesterday's check-in and really my process is anything I can do to keep working on this thing that I hadn't touched in over a decade before I picked it back up over the summer. There are still bits I don't remember all that well and I'm trying to fix things that exist, fill holes, and basically get it to the point where I have a coherent draft of the first... half to two thirds, a plan for the final third and can just push through and write a better ending, before I double back and do a second pass to get it to a state where I can start shopping it. I go slow so I'm aiming for maybe beginning of September. Apparently that's the date of the next #PitchWars so it's a goal.

Also I have tendency to make everything as difficult as humanly possible for myself. Do not recommend.

I can usually write without *needing* deadlines, but sometimes they do help in getting the specific thing in question to happen, rather than my wandering off and writing ten words each on a dozen different things, you know?

"Process" really is whatever works, even if it's weird or backwards or only half-works. Progress is still progress!

I got 517 words on Spicy Advent and finished it yay + 768 words on Come Undone in the world's longest freaking chapter with NO logical place to break it

Dividing up chapters can be weirdly hard. I have a novel where I re-worked where the chapter breaks went SO MANY TIMES before it was done. I'm still not completely sure on some of them.

Sounds like you're just trucking along, which is great.

I stayed up too late but managed to finish the Yuletide fic! It totally needs lots of editing and a decent title, and I should figure out if there's anyone I can get to beta it this late in the game, but at least the story exists and is complete and stuff. :-)

Re: cleaning, hehe, I've been making a list of cleaning tasks in my notebook, in the hopes it'll help me be organized that I can pick up items from a list, because that eliminates a part of the decision-making process that makes cleaning harder for me. So, uh, at least I'm well-prepared. In my language we have a saying that translates to "well planned is halfway done" so I've clearly been industrious.

For a while we had this amazing computerized task list system that my SO set up, complete with dedicated monitor in the kitchen for us to check off tasks. But alas it eventually fell by the wayside. Should get it running again someday, really.

Well, gaming is a pretty broad field, though of course your own personal experience of it won't cover all possible gaming topics.

Things relevant to me currently and gaming that you could perhaps write on?

The idea that some games aren't "really" games, i.e. match 3, any other phone puzzle game (I play SO MUCH Word Cookies and Alchemy these days).

Let's Plays and other ways to experience games without playing them (I watch Zelda game LPs a bunch for games I'll never play, because as a Zelda fan writer who loves the reincarnation lore, "my" Link characters would presumably have lived through all these games I never played, and I want to know about them!)

The notion (perhaps myth) that spending screen time is wasted time. As a parent I see so much "keep them away from screens" advice, and yet my toddler has picked up so many concepts, skills, and ideas from playing tablet games herself. She's already nearly as good as I am at games like Cut the Rope! And she has been teaching herself to read with games, lyric music videos, and books. But definitely more of the first two than the latter.
