I'm on the same scene I was on yesterday, but it's over 2K now

between assorted distractions (some related to my consciously not hyperfocusing on writing this, many not), writing this is a serious pain

also I'm wondering how much I can just…not explain? like, do I need the characters who are figuring something important out to show their work? it's not something that will surprise the reader—the show's audience have known this thing for two whole seasons now—and there's enough in the information they're working off of seeming to contradict this conclusion that everyone else is going to say "let's get more evidence before doing anything we can't undo" (and then there will be video proof), but like

How much to explain / not explain is always a toughie! I always over-explain and I don't recommend that, because it leads to bulky drafts, and when I read other people's work I'm usually happy to infer a whole lot and not have too much explained. Then again, sometimes you need a bit of explanation to convince the readers that the characters are convinced. Maybe show some key thing (or a few things) that help convince the characters, but not show all of their deductions? I feel like I've seen several effective scenarios where one key thing is explained properly and it's implied there is more but the scene doesn't go into that in detail. But ultimately I guess you only know it by trying it out and seeing how it works. :-)

I think I'm going to take the "a couple key things" route, yeah. I got all the pieces on the board already, readers already know from canon that the conclusion these characters will reach is correct, the clueless other characters will get more information shortly and won't need to know how the better-informed characters reached this conclusion—it ought to work…

I think if the readers know, then a pretty bare minimum is all you need. Although I am in camp "I over-explain".

Moved scenes around in the main document to follow the timeline I hammered out yesterday, and rewrote the intro to one scene so that it makes more sense where I put it and also no longer makes reference to things I decided were no longer canon.

I had a busy day, but I managed to work a bit on the short story again. At this point it's clear I'm not making the anthology call (because I'd have to send it, uh, today), but I hope I'll finish it for one of the regular SFF writing contests in 2020, or be able to submit it for a zine at some point. I didn't get a lot of words now, but better than nothing.

I also looked at the femslashficlets queer lit women's quotes prompt list and wrote down some ideas for what to write for some of the prompts.

By the way, has it already been agreed who's hosting January? I know in past years trobadora has done January, but I don't remember if I've seen it confirmed, so I thought I'd check.

Ah yes, I noticed it later and forgot to add to my comment.

The prompts are really cool, there's a prompt table of 15 queer women's literature quotes, and to complete the table you should write a ficlet for each of them, any fandom. I have time until summer, I think, and I've picked up enough new fandoms it shouldn't be too hard to come up with fics for each. I hope!
