bladesparkI just now remembered a dream I had.
In this dream I was a prince, who'd been away from my home kingdom for a very long time. While I was gone the Grand Vizier somehow arranged to get rid of my father the king, so I had to come home and thwart him and reclaim the throne. I'd been away so long, though, that nobody recognized me, and so I was able to return as a stranger, and was swiftly recruited by the Grand Vizier to be one of his chief henchmen, as I was obviously smart and capable.
The kingdom's castle, by the way, was also a massive hotel-casino, in the Vegas style, a kind of hybrid between the Excalibur and the Mandalay Bay, because the main attraction was a Mermaid show. My girlfriend was one of the mermaid performers (not literal mermaids, but people in costume tails you can actually swim in, this is a real thin that exists!) but she was also secretly an accomplished government agent and spy, so she was helping me infiltrate the Vizier's people and find out his plans. He was very impressed by her performance and maybe a little too into her, but she could handle him, she was very awesome.
Anyhow, we finally found out his full plan. The kingdom had an associated goddess, or divine creature, which I find hard to explain. She manifested as a kind of flat, colored shape of light? A section of a divine plane, glowing rainbow? Anyhow, this light-goddess could be interfered with, and the Vizier was going to use a powerful laser to destroy her. Thus the true royal lineage would no longer be goddess-blessed and he could be certain to stay in power.
So he was trying to build this laser on an area near the mermaid pool, and my girlfriend and I were in the midst of some mad scheme involving her swimming out there, and I don't remember what else, because I woke up right then.
I could totally tweak this and make it into a story or two! Wouldn't be the first time I've written from a dream.
