I had a dream, on Thursday night.

It was one of those entirely third person dreams. "I" wasn't present at all, there were simply things playing out that I observed. Does anybody else get those? I blame reading so much, since so many stories are in third person.

Anyhow. In the dream there was an ancient dragon, the First Father Of Dragons, who has actually appeared in several of my stories, though I don't think many of the published ones. I can't recall everything he did in the first part of the dream, there was a bunch of stuff that's since gotten blurry, but I recall vividly that in the second part of the dream there was an underground city, a vast labryinth with surprisingly modern things like restaurants and a university and so on.

A band of young dragons decided to raid the city and broke into its treasury, only to find hardly any gold. They were angry, and wanted to just wreck the whole place, but First Father turned up and scolded them for valuing gold too highly. A dragon's hoard can be any kind of treasure, gold isn't the only thing, and if they wrecked the city, they'd wreck things far more valuable than gold. In fact now that he pondered on what the city held, he wanted it, so they should get their tails out before he ate them all.

They fled, and he crawled into the tunnels, to the university, where there was a huge library, and claimed the whole thing, university, library, the lot, as his hoard.

Then the dream skipped forward to decades later, where the First Father Dragon was a professor, and kind of the head/mascot of the university, and students were eager to take his classes because being taught by a dragon was cool, and they were also actually really good.

Now obviously a dream like that is too good to just let lie about. But it was a bit incoherent, so I came up with a similar but more workable idea for a dragon who went looking for a hoard and ended up hoarding a university library. It wound up at 3k words, all written yesterday after waking from the dream.

Been a while since I did 3k in a day. Been a while since I had the "OMG MUST WRITE!" energy. Been a while since I pounded out a full story all in one go. So I'm stoked about that.

Then, just for fun, I did that evening's Twitterfic on the same theme!

Bookwyrm

I'm still having a lot of fun doing the twitterfics. There's over 2k words total worth of them now! That's a lot, doing one tweet at a time. 35 so far! (37 written, but I submitted two of them to the Furry Writer's Guild, so they're not available to read until they're published in their Microfic Monday event.)

Honestly, my writing overall has been just...nearly nonexistent lately, by my usual standards, (I used to routinely do 4k a day!) but at least I can be pleased to be making these short little things. They're a specific challenge, and I really like them, and I hope to do many more.

I have third person dreams like that a lot. That dream does sound awesome, I've always had a thing about dragons.

That sounds like an excellent dream and story.

And I'm glad the microfic is helping you with the writing and feeling like you're still keeping in practice.
