Well, today was at least an improvement over yesterday... I'd be scared if it had been any worse. What else to say? Oh yes, I got two phone calls, and neither one was for someone else, nor a business type call, both were actually friends of mine. Wow... One guy confirming he can come to my LotR party, and one guy (O.o!) asking me on a date. (This being Darrel, whom I have dated before, and about whom I am still making up my mind.) So tomorrow afternoon we're going down to Salt Lake City for some authentic Chinese food at a non-Americanized restaurant where Darrel will have to order for me, since I don't speak Mandarin. This should be an experience. And I called Wulfy again and didn't get cut off this time. If I keep calling people and being called like this I may have to upgrade my phone plan. Hmmm... wish I actually had money. That would be nice.

What else? Ooo, went mall-crawling with my little sis for a bit. She is very cool, and was only slightly weirded out when I decided to see how much a pair of fuzzy handcuffs would cost. ($12 dollars, incidentally... I can't decide if it would be worth it though, as I won't have many occasions to use them in the near future.) Anyhow, I found a /real/ leather jacket (black, to go with the goth mood I'm in of late,) at the discount store, and I couldn't resist it. It's a size too large, but hey, that's kind of in style, right? So that was kind of fun.

Work, on the other hand, stunk, but what else is new?

Anyhow, today has been an OK day all around. And tomorrow should be good!

Well, ok, not every good day needs to begin with chicken feet, and actually today didn't quite /begin/ with chicken feet, but they turned up fairly early on. (During lunch, to be precise... and since I didn't get up until noon, that was my first meal of the day. O.o)

To explain... I mentioned in yesterday's ramble that I had been invited on a date to go have authentic Chinese food. What I didn't mention was that Darrel has a taste for the odd and unusual, and I think he wanted to gross me out. I'd told him I'm omnivorous and will try /anything/ once, and I don't think he believed me. So when we went to this restaurant he ordered for us both and got all the weird stuff. Most of it I don't even know what it was, but feet look like feet, and these were definitely feet. With toes and all. Well, I passed the test and ate one whole foot, along with a lot of other stuff, some good, some wonderful, some just ok. (The only thing I really hated, actually, were the shitake mushrooms, which is odd, since I like every other kind of mushroom I've ever had.)

So what are chicken feet like? Well, rather like chicken wings, only even less meat, and less flavor too. It's a bit grody, but they're actually fun to eat. You just bite off a piece and spit out all the little bones. The looks we got were funny too. The Chinese people in there were like "wow, Americans eating chicken feet," and the other Americans were like "Ugh, how can they eat that." So for weirding-out factor, chicken feet seem to be even better than wearing vampire fangs in public. He he he.

And now that I've grossed out at least half of the people reading this, time to move on to the real reason why today is a very good day.

When I got home Mom took me aside into her room and closed the door, and I'm sitting here thinking "Crud, another lecture? Which one this time?" Only instead she starts telling me about how when she was in college her parents paid for half of her tuition and housing expenses, and she paid the other half. (And my mind goes, "she can't be headed where I think she's headed with this, can she?") And then she says how proud she is that I've paid for all my schooling entirely by myself so far. And then she says that the house we're trying to sell just closed and now we only have one house payment. (And my brain goes, "oh my... maybe she is headed where I think she's headed...") And then she says that she and Dad will pay the rent on my new apartment for me. My jaw about hit the floor. I think I've got the greatest parents ever, even if Mom is a worry-wart and a lecturer.

So I would say that today was a very, very good day. Chicken feet and all.
