Ponies, life, stuff like that.

If anybody's been wondering where I've been lately, this week I've had a Father's Day party, three birthday parties, and two days helping JJ house sit. So, yeah. And, of course, trying to not get too far behind on work. *sigh*

But today I did take time, in addition to sewing etc., to hair a pony.

Woe!

My pony has cancer. *sniffles* I'm so sad!

There's a thing called "pony cancer" you get on older ponies. Apparently it's a mold of some sort, as it spreads, and can contaminate one pony from another, and the spread is stopped with bleach. But the effects of the stuff on plastic are permanent, the bleach won't remove them. It leaves brownish discolored spots behind, and although this isn't a really bad case of it, it's a very pale pony, so they're still terribly obvious.

This annoys me, because I have a pony that's already the perfect color for the next custom job I've got, but I have to repaint him anyhow, because of the cancer spots! It's very irritating. I'm going to give airbrushing him a try, maybe, which should give a smoother result for less effort, but even so I'm still really annoyed at having to paint him at all. It makes doing the entire custom job harder at every single step! Bah. Stupid pony cancer.

By the gallon...

Do you drink bottled water? Happily I don't, so I don't have to feel really stupid after reading this. I've bought a few bottles of the stuff, which funnily enough I buy for the bottle, one of them's being used as a cheap substitute for the Nalgene that I can't bring myself to spend that much on this very moment. But I fill them up once they're empty with tap water, which I find perfectly palatable in most places. (Although one of my apartments in Ireland about drove me to get bottles. Ugh.)

Anyhow, I just discovered two things, one of which is that the two major bottled water brands, Daisani and Aquafina are filtered tap water. That's it. Nothing special, no mountain springs or exotic minteral content, just the local water run through a filter no better than you could buy yourself.

The other thing is that bottled water costs more than gasoline here in the USA. That $1, 20 oz. size breaks down to 5 cents an ounce. The $3 gallon of gas everybody's screaming about is only 2 cents an ounce. And while gasoline is pumped up, shipped, refined, shipped again, and then sold, the bottled stuff is just run off the plant's local tap water, filtered once, shipped once, and sold. They're making a killing on that stuff!
