After a very nice discussion with somebody at JMS Books, I have learned that I may have actually made closer to $50 last quarter. I just can't get paid that money until next quarter for Reasons. (Reasons being Amazon's system, quarterly accounting, and refunds being available through Kindle, as far as I can tell. I'm starting to really loathe quarterly accounting. I am not a patient person.)
Fifty bucks over three months is not fame and fortune! But it's not complete and utter failure either. So I'm feeling a little more sanguine about this "publishing" thing. I mean, the self-pub experiment is still a disaster, but to be honest I have had a few thoughts about that. Did you know that tumblr still allows adult content if it's written?
I ramble too much. The point is that I'm going to plow on with this "trying to make at least beer money by selling books" thing, so not only will I still be writing, I will still be shilling my writing. And in the vein of every "the first one's free" system out there, I've decided one good way to do this is to share more of my writing for free. I'll be doing so here on DW, on Tumblr, on Fetlife (link available by request), on Furaffinity, and to a lesser extent on AO3 and Fimfiction also.
I've spent a few hours this morning (my goober child got me up waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too early) rummaging in my story files, and I have found a treasure trove of smutty stories, mostly very, very old, that I've never posted anywhere. I used to be veeeeeery shy about posting the porn, if you can believe that. There are also some things that are against Amazon's rules (I have a massive sex-slave saga that *I* think is fun, but I do get why some people find that squicky.) I am going to be sharing these. At a rate of about one a week. Probably starting next week, I gotta get some things organized.
Some of it is kinda bad. I even found a little series of stories I'd written while still a virgin! Some of that is so ridiculous. But honestly some of it's still hot, so it's gone on the list of stuff to share too. Might even start with it, get the worst out of the way and improve from there. :D
So yep. Expect more free porn from me!
Also expect more for sale, of course. I am constitutionally incapable of stopping writing, and if I'm going to write stuff I have to do something with it, so I might as well make a few bucks. ( I'm pretty goddam broke. I haven't had decent income since getting pregnant nearly four years ago. Our rent is covered no matter how I do, but this is basically my only source of "me" money for little incidentals like having lunch out sometimes, literal pints of beer, etc.) I just have to figure out something better to do re: cover art, because right now it's costing waaaaaaaaaay too much.
I also got one more patron yesterday, for some reason, which encourages me to keep at this. I am mystified by this person, tbh. They only support me, and only for $1. Signing up to the whole system just to spend one buck a month on nobody in particular seems odd? But whatever. A dollar is a dollar and I'll take it.
P.S. Also going to have a Zelda short up soon, maybe today or tomorrow, and will be posting a new chapter of <a href="https://archiveofourown.org/works/17579516/chapters/41434163>Kiss Against The Wall</a> on Monday. Yay!
