Having narrative dreams again!
Oct. 6th, 2021 11:48 amIncluding one about the new house we're buying where it turned out to be a completely different house that had belonged to an eccentric art collector and all the rooms had been turned into these elaborate museum display exhibits with sculpted walls in various themes and so on, where I recognized halfway through that this could not possibly be real, the house was larger than mansion-sized and we could never actually afford that, and who would leave half their art collection behind anyway? But I couldn't get myself to full lucid dreaming or to waking up, I was just stuck in the dream, knowing it was a dream, as it slowly turned to nightmare with me being trapped in this place and the realtor turning suddenly murderous.
The other dream I had would make a pretty good story, I think!
I was Link in this, and I was accompanied by a "variant" as we're calling these now, who was a younger, female Link. We appeared in a temple/dungeon after having escaped...somewhere more like the real world, I think? I was happy to be back in familiar territory, dungeons and all, but GirlLink was a little sadder, she liked fighting less. Neither of us were armed, though. So I had to figure out how to fight things with just my hands. A few minor enemies (cuckoos in this were aggressive, but also killable) were easy, but then there was a Stalfos. However I knew I had some sort of magical ability, even if I hadn't learned any spells here, so I tried to focus pure magic power, which worked, somewhat to my surprise.
I fought several other enemies, but they were acting oddly, less mindlessly? With still no sword, I and my companion decided to rest in the room where we'd arrived. One of the enemies I'd managed to kill, a wolf-thing? Dropped some weapons as treasure, so we were armed a little bit. We spent a night in the dungeon, and several more creatures came in and attacked us while we were trying to rest. I pretty much hacked and blasted my way through things, but GirlLink was just fighting defensively, because she thought that the less mindless reactions meant that these "monsters" might be fully sentient. Eventually I killed the ones attacking me, but the ones attacking her broke it off and left.
While we were sitting there, a Stalfos walked in and closed the doors. He didn't attack, he just looked at me and said, "We're shutting this area for a while." I was pretty confused by that.
He turned out to be a mini-boss, in charge of running this small dungeon, and I was disrupting things, so if GirlLink and I were going to stay in this part of the dungeon, they'd just shut it down. I was all I don't want to mess it all up, I'm just trying to get to... It was kind of vague at this point, but I think I may have said a Queen that rules somewhere else, who's summoned me? The Stalfos told me that this Hyrule is ruled by the Red Queen. It wasn't supposed to be, it should be Zelda, and this upset him a lot.
He asked, if he got me in to talk to the usurper, could I overthrow her? I said maybe I could, but I need a real sword. He got a proper Master Sword type blade from somewhere for me, and helped me out of the dungeon without fighting anything. (Incidentally this dungeon was laid out like a typical modern Mormon Churchouse? With elaborations on that, but still. I dunno, my brain being my brain.) The Stalfos used the way enemies can't see doors to hide, so we wouldn't kill his minions, and got us out the entrance.
Next door was the Red Queen's place, and we found a line of folks waiting to see her (Guinan was there for some reason, she liked my boots, I had a sort of hybrid typical Link boot/New Rock boot thing for whatever reason. I also had a cape with a hood, rather than a hat.) We were recognized, not sure if it was me as hero, or Stalfos as the Red Queen's employee, and let to the head of the line.
Inside, The Red Queen noticed my sword and took it. Stalfos was really disappointed, wasn't I supposed to kill her? The Red Queen put the sword at my throat, but I wasn't afraid of it, I just smiled at her. I knew the Master Sword can't hurt me. I told her about the White Queen, and she wanted to go see her sister, so I could come with her, if that was my quest. With that promised, I went out the back door, then had to laugh, because the Stalfos boss was standing inside, I could see him through a window, puzzled, all where did Link go? Outside his own territory he was as blind to doors as any of his minions.
I called him outside, where a Stahlchild and a cuckoo had come out to meet us, escorting GirlLink with them. She asked what happened, and I explained that the Red Queen just wanted to hold things together here temporarily, but really wanted to find her sister, not rule Hyrule, so we'd go with her to where the White Queen was to further both our quests.
That's the point at which I woke up.
P.S. there were also chickens/cuckoos living in the museumhouse, but only in the living room, which was also full of houseplants and books, rather than art.
