The little bugger was right. I have the feeling he was right by accident, but that @#$@$# lion plush is not a copyrighted design.

*sighs* So I guess I don't get to turn him into the copyright police, I just shall send him back his plushes and call it over.

Long story. The short version is that I commissions come custom plushes, and one of them turned out to be exactly identical to a plush available in such places as Target. Hardly "custom." Whe I confronted the maker with the fact that he seemed to have run down to the store for mu supposedly hand-made item, he claimed to have made it himself from a copyright-free pattern. I cast aspersions upon this claim and prepared to throw him to the copyright lawyers, but now I find that the manufactuter says that unless the thing has their tag on it, they don't care, he can copy it all he wants. This attitude baffles me, but there it is...

Wow. Not the ending I was expecting with it. So since he "supposidly" didn't put their tag on it, it's OK? Where the hella did he get the pattern? Still smells like yesterday's ripe diapers.

I know! But... the gal at the plush company was all "So... why do I care? What do you want me to do?" I said "Well, isn't this copyrighted?" And said tells me that "Well, there are only so many ways you can make a lion. There's nothing I can do if it doesn't have a tag."

I was totally boggled.

You sure the tag didn't conveniently vanish and then have its absence covered up with some sewing thread?

It's hard, also, for them to do something if he's not mass-producing these and selling them for a profit.

I suspect it's not so much 'hard' as 'not going to result in enough damages to even cover lawyer fees, let alone anything else so it's not really worth the effort'.
