I have the weird and wild idea of having Blood and Fire printed by a small press. It would be pricy, but not prohibitavely so. I'd want to get it edited by a halfway decent editor first though, and also have some decent cover art done for it. But still... *files thought for later.*

Former book editor at Del Rey books here.
You might want to look at the POD (Print on Demand) option that is sweeping the nation. That way your costs are way down. The down side is that you have to do all the promotion for the book.
tell me if you want some more info on this option.

That's what I'd been planning on doing. I wouldn't be printing this with any thought of really making a profit. I'd be doing it just for the personal satisfaction of holding a copy in my hand, and for the fun of being able to inflict the thing on friends and family as a Christmas present, and so on.

Indeed, POD would probably be the way to go, but you can sometimes save money by getting it designed, edited and cover-ified by a designer yourself and then printed with a local printer (one who is amenable to small print runs) as well. Just something to think about.

And no, I won't try to sell you on my services but I am also available to give you advice on various things as well, particularly the design and printing end (used to work for a POD outfit as a graphic designer and production technician before doing the same job freelance).

Whatever you decide to make of your written work I wish you luck! I seriously have to find time to fully read what you have so far (scanned the first page when I had a moment! sounds interesting!)

Lulu.com is a Print on Demand publisher. You send them your book, they sell and take care of everything for you. You can even by copied of your own book for a lower cost as well.
