It's alive!

I have a new printer/scanner/copier/fax combo thing. It's farily awesome, though I doubt I'll ever use the fax.

But it speaks.

Scared the living daylights out of me the first time it did it. It still startles me, even when I'm expecting it, but I keep forgetting it does it! Not that the printer itself has speakers, it's through the computer. But in the middle of listening to music, one does not expect to her a Star-Trek-esque neutral masculine voice going "Printing started" at you.

It's when it starts trying to strike up conversation with you that you have to start worrying...

"I was thinking, instead of printing for you tonight, that I might read you a passage from my latest novel in progress... I hope you don't mind? It won't take long. I only have 12MB of memory after all..."

And I bet you thought HAL 9000 was something to fear... ;D

Whoa. Is there anyway you can disable the talkies? As fun as it is to freak guests out with it, I'm not sure it's wise to have a printer that can sass back.

Hahaha. Mine does the same thing. It's a crappy little printer we've got, but you're right. It is a star trek-y masculine voice.
