I have just returned from an evening of pure awesome! JJ and I, and a couple of friends of his, went to see the Floydian Slips. (A Pink Floyd tribute band local to Eugene. Quite popular too. The place didn't sell out, but only because it was huge.) They were incredible. Next best thing to seeing Pink Floyd for real, and honestly not far removed from. They did a nearly flawless job, and they were NOT just directly copying every note. The style was pure Floyd, but they threw in a number of really neat variations. They did the whole of Dark Side of the Moon, a good chunk of The Wall, and a couple of other things as well.
I was RIGHT at the front of the crowd, just back from the stage for the first half, and actually leaning against the stage for the second half. 'Twas awesome! And deafening. And everything vibrated with the beat, including my intestines, whee! There were some *ahem* recreational substances being passed around. I got offered a hit, but declined. Also much alcohol. About midway through the second half a very, very, very drunk female climbed up on stage, managed to flash the entire audience, and then threw herself off in a classic drunken stage dive right before security got her. *giggles*
But amusing as that was, the highlight was definitely the music. The singers could sing and holy crap the lead guitar player was stunningly good! All that incredible guitar you hear in Floyd's songs, executed flawlessly. Wow.
I now must get a marching hammers armband. I wore my paramilitary shirt, matching pants, and Boots Of Doom, but the thing that would have completed the outfit for that occasion would be such an armband. I wonder how hard they are to find?
