Things to note today:

1. Aloe vera gel when added to baking powder residue looks a lot like iodine.

This was discovered due to the fact that I got stung by a wasp today. (Ow ow ow ow ow!!!!) I put damp baking powder on it, as a home rememdy, and went to work. It helped a bit, but it still stung some after, so I pulled a leaf or spine or whatever you call it off our aloe-vera plant and smeared some on the spot. Five minues later it had turned iodine yellow. Odd.

2. Steel plates are nifty! Also heavy. But nifty.

Somebody at work was throwing away four pakcages of file dividers. These are things used in metal filing cabinets to separate sections, and consist of steel plates or varying sizes, depnding on the cabinet in question. I didn't open any of the packages, but from the look of them I'd say I have 4 dozen or so 12" X 16" 1/16" thick plates. Or maybe 2 dozen 1/8" ones, though I doubt they'd need anything that heavy duty so probably not. He he he. I will find a good use for these, oh yes.

3. Wasps are evil, see #1

4. I will never have to clean out an examining table again! Yeeeeeeee! He he he. Free, free, freeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

Yep. When I turned up for work today, my replacement was there to be shown the job, so today I showed it to her and tomorrow she starts, and I am freeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!

Only in the bottle. When they swab it onto your skin, it goes yellow. (Has to do with dilution and stuff... turns reddish first, then orange.) I know this. I just finished working at a hospital where I cleaned up lots and lots of it. I was always happy when suspicious little yellow marks turned out to be iodine, oh yes...

I'm still trying to decide what exactly this nefarious usage will entail. I want to take the technical 3-D sculpture course at the university that involves things like foundry techniques though, and I'm sure something will come to me once I do...

... oh, that kind of iodine. I was thinking of pure iodine crystals (and iodine gas as well) which are indeed purple. The one used for antiseptic purposes is an organic solution.

Well, when I say "iodine yellow" that's the kind of iodine that comes to /my/ mind right off. *shrugs*

Despite the fact that it wasn't really an industrial arts class, Theory and Applications of Welding Methods and Techniques was definately my favorite course...

Yes, I was just thinking that she should take that class at the uni and use the skills learned there to make those plates into a suit of plate armor. ¬¬

Please do not point out the jackal's apparent obsession with all things midieval.
