As a counterbalance to the earlier logs of stupidity, here's a really well thought out article that expresses a lot of what I think about our reactions to various recent acts of terrism, and how we may be giving the terrorist what they want.

I can appreciate what he's saying about upping intelligence and investigation, but I can't help but feel that most of the article is "if you ignore the bully, he'll stop." And we all know from experience that's not true at all.

I don't think that's quite meant to be the point. Or at least that's not what I got out of it. If you read the whole thing, he points out that we've never, ever, ever actually arrested a terrorist on US soil. I think the point is that the bully isn't even real! There is no bully. Not here in America. And that by spying on and suspecting our own people, we're wasting energy that could go into defending against real threats.

It's not that we should ignore them, it's that we should only pay attention to ones that are actually there, and not make them up. There are plenty of threats here at home that need police attention. There are plenty of terrorists elsewhere we could deal with, why are we wasting our time chasing bogeymen that we haven't actually seen?

I don't think it's any coincidence that everyone was harping on about how there will be another attack any day now, right before elections, either.

Blair said that we would not allow the terrorists to change our way of life.

Well, he was veyr wrong. It's sickening and depressing

Yes it is. And rather pathetic too, as none of the ZOMG!Anti-terror measures are actually stopping terrorists.
