bladespark: (depressed)

There are three IRC channels, six forums, and seven lj communities I'm a part of where I have to be a professional at all times. I can't lose my temper, I can't be critical of others, I can't flip out if I'm angry or mope if I'm depressed, or make sarcastic comments if I think somebody's being an idiot, because professionals don't do those things.

Unfortunately sometimes it seems like I'm not supposed to do those things in most of the other forums, chanels, and communities I'm part of either, because apparently if you're a professional anywhere, you must be a professional everywhere.

Bah.

Bah! Professionalism is overrated. Let's go TP one of those forums! :)

Oh, I'm allowed to be /silly/ I'm just not allowed to actually be angry, or hurt, or anything like that.

Bah! If someone is that put off that in your personal space, you do occasionally sound off, then they were probably not a customer worth having (as much as the income might have been nice.)

I suppose, though, it's probably the ease to which someone can go from professional space to personal space that makes them huffy about it when they discover it.

Might I advise a voodoo doll?

Well, maybe not voodoo, but a nice effigy (or kidnapped victim) you can STAB STAB STAB STAB STAB when the annoying people raise their ugly heads

And I'd advise forcing the non-professional in the non-professional areas or your head will explode like a pumpkin being hit by a sledghammer. And then who's going to clean that up?

I personally disagree with all of the above: it's a good idea to keep a certain level of sobriety in any public arena. I'd treat open forums and chat rooms the same way I'd treat going to a club or a park or any other open location: it's fine to be silly and good to be funny but generally it's not good form to rage or whine excessively... you never know who might be listening in, and you attract attention even if they weren't initally eavesdropping.

That said, a personal journal or a closed forum or channel is different. If populated solely by people you trust to engage in these discussions, then you can do whatever you like: it's more akin to having friends over.

Sorry I didn't get back to ya sooner, the tail arrived at the end of last week and it looks great! It's a LOT bigger than my old one, but there's no question it's lighter and looks a lot better!

I posted one picture in my journal that's.. really bad.. I'm starting to hate how poor my cameraphone takes pictures.. but I'm going to try for another sometime with a good camera

Waitwaitwait. It's the Internet. Worse, it's a public forum on the internet.

...

Maturity is to be expected? o_O; You've skewered my worldview!
