I was standing, doing dishes, when JJ informed me, quite calmly, that there was a spider on me.

Now I am not especially arachnaphobic. I think spiders are neat, but that's when they're crawling down the wall, or out in the yard, or on the pages of a book. Not when they are on my person. Still, I was picturing the little half inch garden spiders we get in abundance here, or maybe a shaggy wolf spider. So I turned my head to look, and I saw a MASSIVE spider sitting on my shoulder, mere inches from my face, and it was black, with a fat abdomen. And although already a little, observant voice was noting calmly that the legs were hairy and it just didn't look quite right, the insticts had already shrieked "Black Widow!" and had taken over. I jumped, screamed, flailed, got water all over, and flung the spider heaven knows where.

So now I'm all wound up, and am twitching and jumping every time my own hair brushes my arm or something.

*shudders*

Ohhh, I hate the feeling of stuff crawling on you. It just messes with your head.

Aiespider. Understandable, though, how the fact that it's right there, thank you very much, will cause almost anyone to say "getitoffgetitoff!" Still, good that you didn't get bit.

Oy vay, you handled that pretty well actually, I'm impressed. I would not be so fortunate and would probably have made quite an embarrassment of myself with much screaming, flailing, crying (I don't DO screaming and crying), and taking refuge on some high place. But then I am arachnophobic, so... I also have that creeped out feeling after the fact, lasts quite awhile.

Luckily, had it actually been a black widow, they apparently aren't as poisonous as people thought (not sufficient to kill a person normally). Supposed to be extremely painful though, and frankly, that's deterrent enough!

ugh! I'm arachnophobic too. If anything like this had happened to me, I think it woulda taken my husband a week to get me off the kitchen table.

Uh, no. Brown recluses are, you know, BROWN. Not black. And they're not native to this area anyhow.
