Well, I might as well post this on my journal too, in hopes that somebody here might be able to help out.

So, about a week ago, I called the local WalMart, and asked if they had the "gray with black tips" wolf fur, and they said yes. So down I went to buy every yard they had, so I could have a stock for the next year... only to arrive and find it was white with black tips! Which fur I alreayd have about two yards of, and which I hardly ever use!

This unfortunate circumstance means I need to find another source. Just now I am aware of one company able to supply me with that kind of wolf fur, and that's I'm Stuffed Fur, which charges around $40 a yard for the stuff. WalMart charges less than $15 a yard for it. Obviously I'd prefer not to pay $40 + shipping if I can get it elsewhere cheap.

Thus, I turn to you wonderful folks. Can anybody get the WalMart wolf fur in quantity? I definitely want the gray, and would like a few yards of the brown as well. (The gray is tan base, light gray coat, black tips/guard hairs, the brown is orange-brown base, brown coat, dark chocolate tips/guard hairs. They both look like WOLF and cannot be mistaken for anything else, really.) I can pay for the fur, plus shipping, plus some for your time, gas money in driving to get it, etc. Alternately, I have Montery Mills long pile fox fur (the nice, three inch stuff you can buy from CRs Crafts,) in rust, black, or white that I could trade for it.

I'd like, if possible, 6 yards of the gray wolf and three of the brown.

Is there anybody that can hook me up?

P.S. I'm also looking for some non-WalMart wolf fur, 100% gray, dark gray or black tips, light gray base, no tan or brown, or any other color but gray and black on it anywhere. The WalMart stuff has tan at the very base, and while it's great for tails and some wolf heads, on some I need something that will still be gray, though lighter, should I shave it down! Same deal goes for that, I'll pay or trade for it. I'd like a couple of yards, maybe up to five yards if the price was good.

You may want to post this in [livejournal.com profile] furxchange...especially if you have a pic of the fur from a previous project.

Yeah, I should probably post there too.

I just hate spamming multiple communities with posts, and I"ve already hit up fursuirauctions with this.

Well fursuitauctions is a good place but i would think that since furxchange is directly related to finding fur...it might work. I dont have a problem with people who crosspost in communities...as long as it is not clear abuse of the system.

It's not so much a matter of not wanting to spam YOU, it's the other members. Me, I'm on fursuit, fursuitauctions, fursuitlounge, and a few others, and if somebody crossposts to all of those, I see a half dozen copies of the same post! It gets annoying very fast.

While I do think the Furxchange thing is a great idea, it's also awfully small just now. Odds are much better that fursuitauctions will have somebody in it who can help me, you know?

I'm going to be doing business in the Corporate Ghetto tomorrow, so I'll stop by WalMart and see what they have. I am in need of about a yard of MM black fox... If they have the wolf fur, should I go ahead and buy it, or warn you first?

Hmm... and there's a Hancock's on the way. I always love an excuse to go there; maybe they'll have gray wolf fur.

If you can buy it, buy it. I can promise you I can pay you for it!

Will do. The real trick will be in not turning this into a furhappy shopping spree. ^_^ Based on past experiences, they'll have two sorts of fur: nasty black fuzz and nasty brown fuzz. But, should they have wolf fur... when you say "buy it," do you mean all of it?

I wonder if they'll put fur on layaway... ;)

Well... 'kay, first of all, I am assuming you know the difference between high-quality fur, and low-quality fur. (Not just softness, but also density, sleekness, and backing strength.) So I only want it if it's the good stuff.

Second, knowing Hancock's, if they have the good stuff, unless you hit a sale, it'll be $25 a yard. So no, not quite the whole roll! But if it's the gray kind, no brown in at all, I'd like 5 yards. If it's got brown in, I still want some but more like... 2 yards.

That sound workable to you?

I'll see what they have. :) So long as I get paid back, I can cover this. When it comes to Walmart's wolf fur, though, how much is reasonable?

Walmart wolf is like... $13.95 a yard, or something like that. So that's the price I'm after there, and I assume the price is standardized. As for amounts... if it's the brown color, that's brown all the way from base to tip, 3 yards, if it's the stuff that's tan and gray and black, then 6.

The brown is this: http://bladespark.topcities.com/costume/saletail41.jpg

The tan/gray/black is this: http://bladespark.topcities.com/costume/saletail40.jpg

The good news is that Hancock is having a half-off fur sale. The bad news is that none of it is remotely like what you're after. Walmart was furless, too. I'm sorry.

Such is life.

Buy yourself any good fur?

From: [identity profile] graydown.livejournal.com
Nah... the only fur I need right now is that MM black fox, but that's only if the rest of the hoof project works. Home Depot's saw is still broken, though, so it'll be a while before I need fur. I'm not allowing myself to buy fur for myself until I need it. There's a pile of Distinctive Fabric scraps to play with, after all. ^_^ Yay for sparkle fur!

I was just at our Hancocks a short while ago. They have it.

It's a medium/dark grey with black tips, super soft and fluffy, about 1.5 to 1.75 inch pile height.

It's currently 16.99/yard... you still want? if so, how much? It'll be closer to $13.99/yard on November 1st... if you want it, would you want it now? or wait until it's on sale?

From: [identity profile] bladespark.livejournal.com
I'd rather wait till it's on sale, there's no rush to get it. At that price, I'd want four yards, I think.

Oh, oh oh! If they have this: http://bladespark.topcities.com/costume/jkkitsune1.jpg I want some! It's cream with orange tips. 2 yards of that if they have it! (They probably won't, I haven't seen that at a Hancocks in a couple of years, but you never know!)
