The final rite of passage before becoming a Jedi is, of course, making one's own lightsaber.
JJ and I have both been saber making this weekend. They're still not quite done, as they both need some finish details, but here's mine:

It was made from exactly four pieces of plubming hardware.

The top is a P.O. plug, basically a bathroom sink drain. (1 1/4" diameter) I hacksawed it down a little shorter, to fit directly against the next piece, which is a slip joint extention, also 1 1/4" (They make them in 1 1/2" too, if you want one a bit larger, but I found the 1 1/4" to be just the right size for a comfortable grip.) The end piece is a slip joint coupling of the same size. Then the end is the plug from the drain at the top, which fits neatly, and comes with a convenient ring for clipping to your belt. The "button" up near the top is an adjustable tubing clamp, which should also be located in the plumbing section of your local hardware store. The plug needs to be painted, and I also need to add rubber rings (which JJ has ordered online) to the grip, so that it's more comfortable and less prone to slipping, but other than that, it's ready to go! All I had to do was hacksaw the drain and the extention to the right lengths, and screw everything together.
