Cats are known for eating houseplants, but I figured I was safe. Our only houseplant is an aloe vera. If you don't know what an aloe vera is, it's a fleshy cactus, that looks like this.

I just caught Kali eating it!

Cats are also curious things. Kali will want to find out if aloe tastes good once. Assuming she doesn't like it or it's too hard to eat, she should leave it alone.

She ate a good bit of it, then threw it up. Then nibbled on it again!

Well, okay, Kali will learn eventually. We hope. I'd hate to think that she's not going to be brilliant enough to recognize eating the aloe plant is a bad idea.

Aloe Vera is actually poisonous so no wonder she threw up.

My cat will chew on any and all house plants as a last resort but he much prefers grassy things.

It's just a biological need for them to get grass so I either grow him oats/barley/etc to nibble, or I feed him bit of whatever I eat, sprouts, lettuce, etc.

In the summer it's easier 'cause I can just pick him grass from outside.

I don't know about cats, but humans can eat at least some of the aloe vera plant. I partake of aloe vera gel (nasty) occasionally for my tummy troubles.

I thought cats occasionally ate plants to MAKE themselves sick? Or is that an old wives tail?
