It's interesting how things happen.

Firstly, I was feeling in the mood to do something to better humanity, which mood began with a long train of thought started by en e-mail from my mother, and continued by a couple of remarks heard in church today.

Secondly, it was raining.

And thirdly, somebody from the Sierra Club knocked on my door. It's a cause I support, in abstract at least, though I don't know exactly what they do or how they do it. (I mean, in abstract I support PETA, you know?) But this guy was dripped wet, shivering, and very, very earnest about it, so though I didn't sign up, I did put my name on a post card for him, and then invited him to come in and have some hot chocolate and warm up for a bit. I've done the door-to-door thing in a climate a lot like this one, so I felt for him.

If the first two things hadn't been the case when he came by, I probably would have just said "no thanks" and sent him on his way, and the rest of this never would have happened.

While he was warming, we chatted a bit, and he is one of those passionate types who's in favor of all kinds of causes, large and small. His personal crusade, aside from the global warming thing, is this "pay it forward-ish" endeavor with a twist. He wants to encourage people to do small acts of kindness by having a group of "superheros" who go around Eugene doing ordinary yet heroic things. Cleaning up litter, putting extra money in expired parking meters, stuff like that. Well, I'm definitely in favor of that sort of thing, and as I'd previously mentioned I did costume making, it wasn't long before I ended up giving him a business card, so that I can get a little side business making off-the-wall superhero costumes for Meter Maid and The Public Pickle*

Don't know how that will pan out, but he did say he intended to pay for the costumes, so it won't be all pro bono work. I like the idea so much that I will probably give him at least a small discount though.

*The People's Picke? Pick-up Pickle? Darn it, I remember it was "PP" and that it was a pickle, what WAS that first P?

maybe to get you out of a pickle, if you're in one... but that would be more of a pickle jar opener, wouldn't it?

But she's making a pickle...and I don't think it's a Vore Pickle.

Stuff to better humanity, yay. I've been witness to lots of miniprojects with that aim in mind, usually sidling along the due process of glamourbombing, but with a more general topic in mind. Because unusual acts of reaitybopping really are cool. Yummy.

Ooo, superhero costumes. Good causes are cool.

Also, hello there! I friended you. I've seen/heard mention of ya from a couple of friends, and thought 'ooh, someone to know', so. Greets. ^^

Make sure your local superheroes check the laws before they feed meters. In some places around the country, one of the constabulary will write you a ticket because feeding the meter denies the city income.
