Deadly sin

Though whether it's envy, or greed I'm not sure.

I'd like to be rich. Mostly I'd like to be rich enough, and rich so that I could drop money on things like Friesian Majesty without batting an eye. I lust endlessly after things like that. I look at people who own things like that, and I drool. I constantly an eyeing parades of shiny, useless things that I want.

But then I go and look in the fridge, and I have cherries, and beef stick! And Marie Calander pasta dinners in the freezer, and I'm moving into a lovely apartment, and I have lots of nifty stuff already, and I tell myself that I'm so much better off than I've ever been in my life.

And heck... I can't drop $150 on that thing without batting an eye, but I might just go ahead and bat an eye at it in a few months, and get it anyhow. We'll see.

*skritches*

I like your goal better than mine. Being able to drop money on Frisian Majesty is a lot more achievable goal than being able to drop money on a Friesian at a whim... :P

Oh heavens! I went through a phase when I wanted a real horse. It even lasted a little bit into realizing how much work a real horse is. But then I got cats, and realized that I am just not cut out to keep and care for any animal that takes any more attention than a cat does, because it's all I can do some days to muster the energy to clean the litterbox and play a game of "kill the fake mousie."

i think the difference between greed and envy is this...

envy is when you want what someone else has because you feel you deserve it more than they do...

greed is when you want to own a bunch of stuff and wish you didn't have to work hard for it, or have to prioritize your wants, (or in an excessive case, you wouldn't even worry about who you'd have to hurt to get what you want.)

you don't really strike me as an envious person... and i don't think there's a person alive who has never been just a tiny bit greedy.

Join the club. I have everything I need, and fair slices of what I want from life, but there's always another shiny round the next bend which would make things "so much better". Nothing wrong with wanting, neighbours ass notwithstanding...

It could stem from just not having to wonder where next month's rent is going to come from, being able to help people out, or wanting to provide for a family. Not all greed has its roots in wantonness (word check?) or selfishness.

Or you might just like shiny things. ;D
