The new cat has come out of hiding and is eating! Yay!

(Still no name. Perusal of hindu goddesses reveals none associated with cats. In fact the only oriental goddess having anything to do with cats that I can find at all is this "Tsun Kyan-Kse" that's part of the myth of how Birman cats as a breed came to be, but the Birman myth is the ONLY reference I can find to Tsun Kyan-Kse anywhere, there seems to be nothing on the internet about her as a goddess, and I don't even know how to pronounce that!

I like Kuan-Yin, but the inevitable shortening of that is "Yin" and I have enough Yins around already, with my YinWolf and Bob's JustYin. (Not sure how to pronounce Kuan either.)

Ceridwen does seem possible, but the cat she was associated with wasn't a nice cat at all! I don't know. More thought will have to be given to this. Kali took about a week to name. Naming is important, and shouldn't be rushed, otherwise you end up with lame names. (*eyes JJ's family, and Waldo.*)

Check into Greek mythology- not much in the way of cat associations, but some lovely names. I'd suggest Nephele (the goddess of clouds) but it's better for a bluepoint, and I just used it for my new dove satin mouse. :P

I think Kuan rhymes with swan. Maybe call her Parvati?

I'd make suggestions, but I feel part of the point of naming is that it must come from yourself~

How about looking into the Norse mythology?

Freyja perhaps?

"Other sources show that Freyja rode a chariot drawn by a pair of cats the size of lions."

All I can say is that those cats must have been well trained in order to get them to do any kind of manual labour. :-P

You could also try naming her for a trait she has, or something signifigant that happened when you got her. I named my cat Tsuki which is Japanese for moon since he was born really late one night and around the time of the full moon.

I named my cat 'Beetle' because it mean 'one who bites' :D I figured it appropriate..

What I often do is search through online baby names and search by the word sound or the meaning(s) I want .

Here's my favorite baby naming site:

I knew a vicar once who called two of his cats Magnificat and Benedicat. (He also was a ferroequinologist, so had another cat called Kitson, and kept chickens called the Pecketts, except for the cockrel, which was a Fowler). Those are injokes, but trust me, they're good ones.

*rolls eyes* Durza says Kiveth (kee-veth), the goddess of fire-in-the-earth (deserts, the heat underground, the heat inside living things, and also associated with lighting, for some reason), because cats are fire creatures.

As she's a goddess from a fictional country and has never been mentioned in the canon, he's probably the only person who knows that.

There's always Mowser. Not exactly a goddess, but a heroic little kitty nonetheless.
