This is just a tiny thing that is really starting to make me roll my eyes a lot. The customers_suck community is NOT the grammar_nazis community. Why is it these days that every time there's a badly written post, nobody responds to the content, they just jump all over the grammar? I'm a grammar nazi myself, I get bugged by abuses of you're/your and this one gal's use of "paragraph's" made me wince too, but she was venting about work not writing a graded essay! And yet of all the comments to her post, 90% were about how it was one large block of text with bad grammar. That's just silly! If you hate big blocks of text, just use the scroll bar and don't read it, people.

I'd post this to the community in question, but it would be off topic, and I'd get jumped all over.

haha! Toto.

(In case you were wondering, that was meant to be an amusing not-quite-ironic commentary on your post)

Hee, that's okay!

Sorry about that, I'm in a playful mood... I shouldn't mess with you when you're annoyed, huh?

Anyhow, yeah, that's really irritating when people ignore the content of the message just to show everyone how superior they are to the person who was trying to initiate a conversation.

Nah, this is "rolling my eyes and going 'yeah whatever'" annoyance, not "ARGH, SMASH, KILL" annoyance. Note the lack of YinWolf/dramawarning icons.

gotcha. Yeah, I figured you'd probably get the joke... but in this font people can't seem to tell when I'm being sarcastic. ;-)

Heh. Now there's a solution to the lack of emoting in text problem. Speak in fonts! Except it still probably wouldn't help much.

I suspect that it has to do with the fact that most of the people posting are in jobs where they have to deal with dumb customers, ie crap jobs. That means, they have no control over that large aspect of their lives, which makes them more likely to jump all over small things they think they can control.

I'd say something about the tendency of people in an "x_sucks" community to feel superior to everyone else, and thus, they'll nitpick at grammar to continue that superior feeling, as well as laughing at the story.

But that's probably pop psychobabble, and not really true.

Ordinarily I might agree, but customers_suck is for retail workers to vent about the horrors of retail work. Have you ever worked a Walmart/McDonalds/Starbucks kind of job? (Those are the three whose employees I see ranting the most.)

I have not, but I know people who do, and I can see where you're going with that, because there are plenty of really stupid people that appear in those places and demand that the universe move itself to meet their conception of how things are. I think there was a Queen of Wands that explained it perfectly.

Yup, and it gets linked to in customers_suck a lot.

I worked at WalMart for 2 years. I've also had brief stints at McD's. Those kind of jobs really *do* suck. Trust me. LOL.

Maybe you could post it as a reply to the post that set off this little rant? Then people can see it and it is topical. After all, your reply would be no more off topic than their replies abot grammar.
