Biggest tail I've ever done.

It's not the biggest one anybody's ever done, but it's getting there, and it may well hold a record for heaviest, because it's got nearly four full yards of longpile, dense fur, and pretty much an entire ten pound bag of stuffing too.

It actually weighs just around twenty pounds.

There's no other suit bits with it, far as I know. At least I was only hired to make the tail itself. I suspect it's going to be a body pillow as much as a costume item.

Well, I did this one for $250. Which now that I've finished it is a tiny bit on the low side. I tend to estimate low when doing something I've never done before, just to make sure I'm being fair. I'd probably do one just like it for $300 in the future.

Of course one as BIG, but without the stripes, that'd be another matter entirely. The stripes took the majority of my time, getting them just right, and getting them sewn up.

I'm assuming you had to double-reinforce the belt loops somehow?

Yes. Normally belt loops are just sewn into the top seam. These are actually sewn to the fabric of the tail on the inside for about three inches down, just rows of stitches back and forth covering the whole length of the strap inside there. I figure that'll probably hold it.

The straps themselves are rated to 200lbs or so, so it's just the seam that's the trouble.
